KANSAS COP MURDERED RESPONDING TO A DOMESTIC VIOLENCE CALL

Hays Police Sgt. Scott Heimann, a nine-year veteran with the department, was helping to set up a perimeter around a home during a domestic violence call when he was struck by a shot from the house.


A Kansas police sergeant was murdered in the line of duty around midnight on Sunday while responding to a domestic violence call.


Sergeant Scott Heimann, a nine-year veteran of the Hays Police Department, responded to a domestic violence call along with a Kansas Highway Patrol Officer. When the officers arrived they began to set up a perimeter as the victim was believed to have successfully fled the residence.  A single shot rang out and Sergeant Heimann went down.  He was mediflighted out but died about two hours after the shooting.

The suspect barricaded himself inside the house and was later found to have self-rehabilitated.  

The Kansas State Police are investigating the incident.
