Sergeant
Scott Heimann, a nine-year veteran of the Hays Police Department,
responded to a domestic violence call along with a Kansas Highway Patrol
Officer. When the officers arrived they began to set up a perimeter as
the victim was believed to have successfully fled the residence. A
single shot rang out and Sergeant Heimann went down. He was
mediflighted out but died about two hours after the shooting.
The suspect barricaded himself inside the house and was later found to have self-rehabilitated.
The Kansas State Police are investigating the incident.
