DETERMINED TO DESTOY THE TRUMP ADMINISTRATION, NADLER GOES FULL STEAM AHEAD WITH IMPEACHMENT INVESTIGATION

Dems pursue ‘impeachment investigation’ with bid for grand jury info, insist Mueller delivered damning testimony against President Trump

By Brooke Singman

Fox News
July 26, 2019

Democrats on the House Judiciary Committee said Friday they are proceeding with what they called an “impeachment investigation,” as they insisted former Special Counsel Robert Mueller delivered damning testimony against President Trump in this week's hearing despite concerns from many on the left that his appearance was faltering and broke little new ground.

As a major next step, Chairman Jerrold Nadler, D-N.Y., and the committee filed a petition in court on Friday to obtain grand jury materials from the former special counsel’s investigation.

Nadler called the grand jury materials “critically important” for their investigation. In the petition, Democrats on the committee noted that because Justice Department policies do not allow the prosecution of a sitting president, the House of Representatives is “the only institution of the federal government” that can hold Trump accountable.

“The House must have access to all evidence,” Nadler said. “We are exercising our constitutional authority. We are continuing the investigation of President Trump’s malfeasances, and we will do and consider what we have to consider including whether we should recommend Articles of Impeachment to the House. We may, we may not. It remains to be seen.”

Nadler also said the committee would seek to enforce subpoenas for former White House Counsel Don McGahn, in another escalation of their anti-Trump probes.

But while Nadler and other senior Democratic leaders indicated they're keeping impeachment on the table -- without committing to it publicly -- colleagues who spoke alongside him at the same press conference described these investigative steps as a deliberate precursor to a formal decision on recommending impeachment articles.

“We are crossing the threshold,” Rep. Veronica Escobar, D-Texas, said. “When you think about the mode we were operating under before, it was an oversight function. This is now crossing the threshold with this filing, and officially entering into an examination into whether or not to recommend articles of impeachment—I just want to make that point clear.”

Rep. Eric Swalwell, D-Calif., added that the petition marks “the first time” that the committee is sending a “telegraph to the court that one of the remedies we have is impeachment.”

“This is an impeachment investigation, on whether we should introduce articles of impeachment to Congress,” he said.

This description, though, prompted confusion on Capitol Hill. Republicans on the same committee insisted that the House has not entered a formal impeachment inquiry, meaning Democrats aren't entitled to the grand jury material they seek.

"The House is either formally in impeachment proceedings, which involve both an impeachment inquiry and consideration of articles of impeachment, or we are not. It’s a binary issue," a GOP aide said in an email.

House Judiciary Committee Ranking Member Doug Collins, R-Ga., blasted Nadler's move to "sue for grand jury material to which they have no right."

"Chairman Nadler’s legal action here is sure to fail, weakening Congress’s ability to conduct oversight now and into the future. If my colleagues want grand jury information, they should propose legislation allowing Congress to access it," he said in a statement. "Democrats want to convince their base they’re still wedded to impeachment even after this week’s hearing, but a baseless legal claim is an odd way to show that.”

But Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee, D-Texas, said the petition to the court Friday will help the committee “delve even further.”

“We are not running away from articles of impeachment,” she said. “We are building it on a trail of misconduct that was evidenced very deeply on Wednesday.”

During her weekly press conference, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., on Friday said she was "not trying to run out the clock" on impeachment as she kept options open despite a public reluctance to proceed with impeachment.

"Let's get sophisticated on this," she said. "We will proceed when we have what we need to proceed--not one day sooner."

She added that rank-and-file Democrats advocating for impeachment only gives her "leverage."

"I have no complaint with what they're doing," she said. "So I am willing to take whatever heat there is to say the decision will be made in a timely fashion. This isn't endless. But when we have the best possible case. And that isn't endless either."

The escalation comes after Mueller delivered his highly anticipated testimony for hours on Wednesday before both the Judiciary and House Intelligence Committees. After the back-to-back hearings, even some on the left felt they were given little new material to fuel a case for impeachment. But Nadler, on Friday, said Mueller's testimony was an "inflection point."

Nadler claimed Mueller's report showed the Trump campaign welcomed Russian interference in the 2016 election and Trump "repeatedly lied to cover it up" -- and his testimony "removed all doubt" about those points.

Since the hearing, at least a half-dozen congressional Democrats have supported the launch of a formal impeachment inquiry.

Democrats have been seeking the grand jury material from a redacted version of Mueller's report for months. Attorney General Bill Barr made public a version that protected sensitive sources and methods, grand jury material, and more. Grand jury material is typically kept secret, per U.S. code.

Mueller stood by his team's findings at Wednesday's hearings—reiterating that the special counsel’s office found no evidence of a criminal conspiracy between Trump associates and Russia, while also stating that the president was not exonerated on allegations of obstruction of justice despite his assertions to the contrary.

But in doing so, he also repeatedly refused to drift beyond the bounds of his report.

This was, to an extent, expected as Mueller had signaled he would only address material already in the public record.

EDITOR’S NOTE: The Daily Mail reports that in Nadler’s committee court filing to obtain the grand jury materials, the word ‘impeach’ or ‘impeachment’ was mentioned 81 times, not counting the Table of Contents.

HAS MAYOR PETE BEGUN HIS DEATH SPIRAL ?

by Bob Walsh

Yes, there are only four Democraps currently polling in double digits, and Mayor Peter is not one of them.

It does seem odd in a way. After all, how can an openly gay ex-military man who is the mayor of a smallish, failed mid-western city and who learned how to read Norwegian so he could read Norwegian poetry and who hates Trump vehemently NOT be leading in the polls. It is, however, true.

Yes, in the next upcoming circus otherwise known as the second round of the Democrap debates both Joe Biden and Bernie Sanders could drop dead and both Kamala Harris and Pochahontas Warren could withdraw. I would not, however, bet on any of those things happen.

Yes, I know, this early on polls are essentially meaningless, at least in a positive sense. They can, however, be killer in a negative sense. Ask Swalwell about it.

GOOD GUYS + 2, BAD GUYS - 0

by Bob Walsh

Early Thursday morning two hold-up men in Virginia Beach, VA. found out that their chosen profession has some risks that come with it.

They two miscreants entered the 7-11, which was at the time occupied by at least one clerk and two customers. Both bad guys were armed. One of the customers, who was legally armed, whipped out his roscoe and engaged the bad guys, leaving one dead and one unlikely to survive. A third person (presumably a getaway driver) was taken into custody by the local constabulary outside the store.

For those in the "Go along and you won't get hurt" crowd, I would remind you that it is far from unknown for the bad guys to shoot witnesses.

SEALS CODE OF SILENCE

Navy SEALs who drank so much booze that platoon was sent home from Iraq are at the center of another scandal after member is accused of raping a female colleague - and his entire unit refuse to speak to investigators

By Rod Ardehali

Daily Mail
July 26, 2019

A platoon of Navy SEALS, who were sent home from Iraq for drinking so much booze that their Commander 'lost confidence' in their ability to serve, are also at the center of a sexual assault allegation filed by a female service member.

Foxtrot Platoon of SEAL Team 7's held a Fourth of July party in which a senior enlisted member of the team allegedly raped a colleague - and when questioned the entire platoon invoked their right to remain silent, the New York Times reported.

When the platoon refused to comment on the allegations, bosses took the radical steps of sending every single member of the unit home, including the lieutenant in command, sources said.

The removal of the platoon was ordered by Major General Eric Hill of the Air Force 'due to a perceived deterioration of good order and discipline within the team during nonoperational periods,' according to a Special Operations Command statement.

The team was ordered to undergo drugs testing, with the results yet to be released.

'There were allegations of wrongdoing, and the commander initiated an investigation, which is still ongoing,' said Ken McGraw, a spokesman for the Command.

'After the investigation began, the commander lost confidence in the platoon's ability to accomplish the mission and ordered the platoon's redeployment.'

WATER ATTACKS BLAMED ON NYPD’S ‘HANDS-OFF APPROACH TO THESE GUYS’ UNDER MAYOR BILL DE BLASIO

Sergeants union chief rips NYPD for tweet about cops ‘cooling off’

By Chris Perez

New York Post
July 22, 2019

“Sometimes you just need to cool off!”

Videos posted online Monday — showing NYPD cops being drenched with buckets of water by residents in Harlem and Brooklyn — were being blasted as “reprehensible” and “disgusting” by department brass. But there’s apparently some police officers who don’t mind getting wet while on the job.

A clip posted by the NYPD’s social media team back in 2016, which was tweeted out Monday by the Sergeants Benevolent Association, shows Brooklyn North cops getting pelted with water balloons and soaked by a group of kids in the 79th Precinct.

The children appeared to be part of a summer day care group and were all smiling and laughing during the afternoon water war — as were the cops.

“Did you have fun?” one of the officers asks.

“Yes!” the kids yell back.

At the time, the video — which was accompanied by a tweet saying, “Sometimes you just need to cool off” — seemed innocent. But SBA President Ed Mullins on Monday argued that it set a dangerous precedent.

“Are you kidding me?” Mullins tweeted, just hours after the latest footage from Harlem and Brooklyn went viral.

“Lieutenant do you realize how many people you place in danger being stupid?” he said. “Do you need to kiss ass to get promoted? What are you thinking? The end result is uniformed officers hit with water, piss, bleach, gasoline & a spackling bucket that killed a cop in 1993.”

It’s unclear when the cops in Harlem got drenched, but sources said the Brooklyn incident took place sometime after 4 p.m. Monday near 1400 East New York Ave. The officers were a little more than two blocks away from the 73rd Precinct station house in Brownsville when the residents set upon them.

“Who does that in their right frame of mind?” asked one police source. “People who believe there’s no consequences.”

The incidents were being blamed on the NYPD’s “hands-off approach to these guys” under Mayor Bill de Blasio.

“There’s total anarchy out here,” the source said. “This is very sad.”

Mullins on Monday night called on Brooklyn North Assistant Chief Jeffrey Maddrey to do something about the viral video — and also urged Police Commissioner James O’Neill to step down.

“The members of the NYPD can NO longer stay SILENT,” Mullins tweeted. “This is about YOU! Each and everyone MUST stand together and demand a change. Someone is going to get killed! We do the job, wear the uniform and take care of each other. The time is NOW O’Neill MUST resign.”

Calling out Maddrey, Mullins said: “Chief- Don’t let us down. You were always a cop in the 67. This is a disgrace, these cops are victims of O’Neills bulls–t policies and every cop in the NYPD knows it. You included. Make collars, lock these pricks up.”

Maddrey sent out a tweet on Monday night, saying cops were still attempting to identify the residents involved in the viral incidents.

“An investigation is underway,” he said.

BOY RAPED 82 TIMES BY NH YOUTH COUNSELORS, AT LEAST ONCE AT GUNPOINT

2 Former Sununu Youth Services Center Counselors Accused of Raping Teenage Boy

By Holly Ramer

NBC Boston
July 25, 2019

New Hampshire's attorney general launched an investigation Thursday into the state youth detention center after two former counselors were charged with raping a teenage boy 82 times, at least once at gunpoint, in the late 1990s.

The "comprehensive, multi-faceted" investigation into the Sununu Youth Services Center will initially focus on the center's operations and employees from 1990 to 2000 and will address whether other children were physically or sexually abused, and whether other laws were broken, Attorney General Gordon MacDonald said in a news release.

Hillsborough County grand jury indictments issued July 19 and made public Thursday charge Jeffrey Buskey, 52, of Boston, with 56 counts of aggravated felonious sexual assault. Steven Murphy, 50, of Danvers, Massachusetts, faces 26 counts of the same crime.

According to the indictments, Buskey is accused of sexually penetrating the teen and forcing him to engage in oral sex, including once at gunpoint. Several of the indictments also allege that Buskey hit the boy, punched him and threw him on a mattress. Murphy also is accused of sexually assaulting and beating the boy.

It wasn't known if Buskey and Murphy had lawyers to speak for them; prosecutors had no information. A message was left at a possible phone number for Buskey, and no number for Murphy could be found. The attorney general's office said that neither is in custody and that court arraignments would be scheduled.

Prosecutors said both men were youth counselors at the facility, which was then called the Youth Development Center. The alleged assaults happened between late October 1997 and late September 1998 while the teen was incarcerated, though several of the indictments against Buskey allege assaults happened at a private home.

Gov. Chris Sununu — a Republican whose father, former Gov. John H. Sununu, is the center's current namesake — called the allegations "sickening."

"The state of New Hampshire stands ready to assist and cooperate in any investigation that will bring these detestable perpetrators to justice," he said in a statement. "I am confident that the Attorney General's Office will aggressively pursue this case _ zero tolerance means zero tolerance."

The Manchester center serves children ages 13 to 17 ordered to a secure institutional setting by the juvenile justice system. It once housed upward of 100 youths, but the daily census dropped from about 60 to under 30 last year when state law was changed to send only those accused or convicted of serious violent offenses to the center.

"The Sununu Youth Services Center is in many respects a very different institution than it was in the 1990s. However, this despicable discovery is a reminder of the vulnerability of children," said Moira O'Neill, director of the state Office of the Child Advocate.

In an email, she said she was encouraged to see that the Department of Health and Human Services, which oversees the center, is working with law enforcement and recognizes the need to ensure children's safety.

Amanda Grady Sexton, a spokeswoman for the New Hampshire Coalition Against Domestic and Sexual Violence, said in a statement that the children entrusted in the center's care "are among the most vulnerable populations in the state of New Hampshire, and we are deeply disturbed by these indictments."

In May last year, another advocacy group alleged that staff at the center routinely violated state law in using dangerous, face-down restrain methods, including breaking the arm of a 14-year-old boy with severe anxiety and post-traumatic stress disorder who was waiting for an opening at a community-based residential program.

CLINTON FOUNDATION INVESTIGATOR BLOWS HIS BRAINS OUT INSIDE AUSTIN BAR

FBI agent brother to cop accused of murder-for-hire plot, dead by suicide: sources

By Larry Celona, Craig McCarthy, Emily Saul and Bruce Golding

New York Post
July 24, 2019

The FBI agent brother of an NYPD cop accused in a murder-for-hire plot killed himself while out of town with other agents, law-enforcement sources told The Post on Wednesday.

Salvatore “Sal” Cincinelli, 41, was found with at least one gunshot wound inside the Container Bar in Austin, Texas, when cops arrived there shortly before midnight on July 16 in response to a report of gunfire, a spokeswoman for the Austin Police Department said.

The incident is being investigated as suicide, the spokeswoman said. She wouldn’t elaborate.

Cincinelli was a former Wall Street trader who joined the FBI in 2011 and led financial-crime investigations in New York City before being promoted to the bureau’s headquarters in Washington, DC, according to biographical information posted online.

His younger sister, NYPD cop Valerie Cincinelli, 35, was busted by the FBI in May for allegedly scheming to have her estranged husband killed amid a bitter divorce. She’s being held without bail.

“She is absolutely devastated by the passing of her brother and best friend, and this is certainly adding to the stress of her current situation,” defense lawyer James Kousouros told The Post.

A since-deleted obituary said that Cincinelli died on July 17, and was buried in the Holy Rood Cemetery in Westbury, LI, on Monday following a funeral at St. Anthony’s Church in Oceanside.

In 2012, he was among several FBI agents interviewed by Reuters for a report on Wall Streeters who quit high-paying jobs to investigate financial crimes.

“Some of my friends said, ‘Are you crazy? Have you lost your mind?’” he said.

Cincinelli also said his wife was initially furious with his decision because she was worried about his safety and unhappy with the FBI’s lengthy training programs.

The FBI declined to comment on his death.

EDITOR’S NOTE: Cincinelli was a supervisory special agent who spearheaded many of the FBI’s high-profile and complex Wall Street investigations, including probing the finances of the Clinton Foundation.

According to The Count, Cincinelli was reportedly out partying with FBI colleagues at the Container Bar, a trendy watering hole in Austin, TX. The group had been drinking and dancing, according to sources. Later in the evening Cincinelli reportedly turned the gun on himself on a crowded dance floor.

IGOR, DAMN IT, WHY DID YOU HANG THE BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN ON THE WALL?

‘Like Frankenstein’: A cooler filled with male genitalia, a bucket of heads, arms and legs, and a woman’s head attached to man’s body hanging on a wall

KPHO/KTVK/CNN
July 24, 2019

PHOENIX -- Gruesome details have been released in a lawsuit against a body donation and tissue bank facility in Phoenix, Arizona.

The FBI raided the Biological Resource Center (BRC) as part of a human body parts trafficking investigation in 2014.

Agents found buckets full of body parts and different people sewn together and hung up on a wall, according to testimony by one of the agents.

“This is a horror story. It’s just unbelievable. This story is unbelievable,” said Troy Harp, who donated the bodies of his mother and grandmother to the facility in 2012 and 2013.

Harp, one of more than 30 plaintiffs in the lawsuit against the BRC, donated the bodies with the understanding that they would be used for scientific purposes.

"Cancer, and leukemia and whatever else, using sample cells, that’s what I was told," he said.
But that’s not what happened.

In 2014, the FBI raided the facility in hazmat suits as part of a multi-state investigation into the illegal trafficking and sale of human body parts.

For the first time, we’re now able to see the testimony from one of the FBI agents who conducted the raid.

The agent said he found a “cooler filled with male genitalia,” “a bucket of heads, arms and legs,” “infected heads,” and a small woman’s head sewn onto a large male torso “like Frankenstein” hanging up on the wall, which is called a “morbid joke” in the lawsuit.

"Who in their right mind?” Harp said. “It's absolutely gross."

The lawsuit says the bodies were cut up with chain saws and band saws.

“Tools that are not appropriate for dismembering scientific bodies,” Harp said.

The lawsuit also says “pools of human blood and bodily fluids were found on the floor of the freezer,” and that there were bodies with no identification tags.

Harp said his mother’s ashes showed up by mail on his doorstep shortly after the raid, but he isn’t even sure they’re her ashes.

He said his mother and grandmother wanted to help medical research after their deaths, yet he doesn’t believe they ever made it out of the BRC building.

When asked if he feels like he’s ever gotten closure, Harp said: "No, this is open, and I don't think I ever will."

BRC owner Stephen Gore was sentenced to one year of deferred jail time and four years of probation after he pleaded guilty to illegal control of an enterprise.

Harp said that’s not enough, and he wants to see more federal regulation of facilities like the BRC, which is now closed.

The lawsuit into the center is ongoing.

BRITAIN AND THE EU HAVE CONTRIBUTED HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS TO THE DEVELOPMENT AND PROPAGATION OF PALESTINIAN TEXTBOOKS AND CURRICULUM THAT HAVE BEEN DESIGNED TO ELIMINATE THE ‘ZIONIST CANCER’ FROM PALESTINE

New PA textbooks are worse than the old ones

By Ken Cohen

Israel Hayom
July 25, 2019

There was great hope and anticipation several years ago when the Palestinian Authority announced that it was completely replacing its K-12 school textbooks. But new editions merely confirm obsessive Palestinian hatred of Jews and rejection of peace with Israel.

The older Palestinian textbooks were filled with ugly anti-Zionist – and anti-Semitic – propaganda. Shockingly, this pervasive spirit of distortion and hate wasn’t only employed in history textbooks, but also dominated language, math and even science lessons.

The original P.A. textbooks were in use for about 20 years, having been published following the Oslo Accords. (Prior to that, Palestinian schools had continued to use Jordanian textbooks published before the 1967 Six-Day War.)

Over the past three years the P.A. has released the full set of new textbooks – and they are even worse than the old ones in teaching Jew-hatred, fictionalized history and a profound glorification of martyrdom, terrorism and hate. Though Western liberals continue to place the onus of peace-making on Israel, these materials make clear the Palestinians’ dedication to waging war.

The Institute for Monitoring Peace and Cultural Tolerance in School Education (IMPACT-se) recently published its reports on the textbooks – replete with examples – that demonstrate the horrific indoctrination being inflicted on Palestinian youth by their educators.

Geography, of course, is taught without reference to Israel’s borders – or even the State of Israel’s existence. All of the maps and exercises are predicated on a state of Palestine with its borders extending from the Jordan River to the Mediterranean Sea, and from Lebanon to Egypt. Israel is completely obliterated throughout the textbooks, although the Palestinian textbooks are rife with references to “Zionist occupiers” and “Zionist Jews.”

The city of Haifa is treated as “occupied territory” – every bit as “occupied” as the disputed areas of Judea and Samaria which fell under Israeli control in June of 1967.

So while much of the world considers the issue of the eventual disposition of the “West Bank” to be the crux of the Arab-Israeli conflict, yet another generation of Palestinian kids in P.A.-administered schools are being indoctrinated to believe that the only satisfactory resolution of the situation is the total overthrow and expulsion of the “Zionist usurpers” from every square inch of “Palestine.”

But the perfidious nature of the Palestinian textbooks extends well beyond geography or even history. Throughout the math and science textbooks – including even first- and second-grade math textbooks – problems and exercises are structured around the purported evils of the “Zionist occupation.” Exercises include comparing the number of “martyrs” in the first and second intifadas, and what percentage of those shot by Israeli soldiers in the Gaza uprisings were elevated to “martyrdom.”

The essential thrust of the P.A. literature and language textbooks is the glorification of martyrdom and jihad as unqualified virtues. Poetry extolling the virtues of suicide bombers and homicidal terrorists are frequent.

In what one might grimly consider a feminist virtue of the new Palestinian textbooks, girls are called to participate fully in jihad, and not to hesitate in making themselves into “holy martyrs.”

But these teaching materials do not merely present a perverse political philosophy, they also convey blanket falsehoods designed to erase Jewish history and support exclusive Palestinian claims to all of Israel.

Thus, Jewish culture and history in “Palestine” are, not surprisingly, completely expunged. According to the Palestinian textbooks, any Jewish presence in the area has existed only in the past century, when synagogues were first built by the Zionist invaders and the Al-Buraq wall – built by Arabs in honor of the Prophet Muhammad’s horse – was renamed and co-opted by Zionists as “the Western Wall.”

Since – according to the Palestinian textbooks – there were never any Jewish Temples in Jerusalem, the Western Wall is clearly another recent Zionist-Jewish invention.

The Palestinian “phased plan” to eliminate the "Zionist cancer" from Palestine – which is still in the PLO charter – is diligently taught throughout the curriculum.

Yet the primary concern of PA Education Minister Sabri Saidam is that Israel refuses to use these Palestinian textbooks in Arab-majority schools in Israel or the disputed territories, particularly in Jerusalem. Saidam insists that Israel’s use of versions of the Israeli curriculum for Arab-Israeli kids is “an ugly crime of counterfeit” perpetrated by the “Zionist oppressors.”

Great Britain and the European Union have contributed hundreds of millions to the development and propagation of the Palestinian textbooks and curriculum, but that may be drawing to a close. Both are doing their own reviews of the Palestinian textbooks; each has laws outlawing aid in furtherance of terrorism, incitement, violence and hatred. Their reports are due later this year, and by all rights should spell the end of UK and EU furtherance of this despicable educational charade.

Those who doubt any imminent resolution of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict need look no further than these Palestinian textbooks to become even more pessimistic about a new Palestinian generation leading the way – at long last – to a peaceful future for Arabs and Jews alike. These unfortunate children are being brainwashed by their elders to seek no compromise, but to continue on the suicidal path of terror, hate and ignorance so well established by past generations of Palestinian Arabs and their leaders.

LAWSUIT AGAINST IDIOTIC CALIFORNIA AMMUNITION LAW

by Bob Walsh

The California Rifle and Pistol Association on Monday filed for an injunction in San Diego Federal Court against the moronic newly enacted and enforced ammunition purchase law in the formerly great state of California.

The new law requires a background check, and a $1 per transaction fee, for all ammunition purchases. Prospective purchasers MUST have CA identification. No one from out of state can purchase ammo in California, and it is illegal for a California resident to purchase ammo out of state and bring it back in themselves. It is also illegal for a California resident to purchase ammo thru out of state suppliers via the internet, mail order, etc. All purchases must be made in face-to-face transactions by specially licensed retailers.

The new stupidity is especially hurting stores in border cities. Prospective purchasers can simply cross the border, buy their ammo and bring it back (in violation of law) without the administrative bullshit and added expense.

YES, NO, MAYBE

by Bob Walsh

President Trump is now in possession of two opposing judicial orders, one from San Francisco and one from D.C. The one from D.C. says the new asylum limitations are OK and can be implemented right now, pending appeal down the road. The one from SF says NO and the program must halt immediately.

So, which one do you obey. I know which one I would obey, but I am not Donald Trump.

EDITOR'S NOTE: The SF court ruling will have to be overturned by a higher court before the asylum limitations can take effect.

JUSTICE DEPARTMENT TO MEET OUT JUSTICE AGAIN

Federal government to resume capital punishment, schedule executions for first time since 2003

By Alex Pappas

Fox News
July 25, 2019

Attorney General Bill Barr said Thursday the federal government will resume capital punishment and will move forward with plans to execute five inmates on death row for the first time in more than 15 years.

The Justice Department said Barr has directed the Federal Bureau of Prisons to adopt a proposed addendum to the Federal Execution Protocol that will clear the way for the executions. Barr has also directed the bureau of prisons to schedule the executions of five death-row inmates.

“Congress has expressly authorized the death penalty through legislation adopted by the people’s representatives in both houses of Congress and signed by the President,” Barr said in a statement.

He added: “Under administrations of both parties, the Department of Justice has sought the death penalty against the worst criminals, including these five murderers, each of whom was convicted by a jury of his peers after a full and fair proceeding. The Justice Department upholds the rule of law—and we owe it to the victims and their families to carry forward the sentence imposed by our justice system.”

The five inmates who have been sentenced to death are scheduled to be executed starting in December:

Daniel Lewis Lee is scheduled to be executed on Dec. 9. Lee, a white supremacist, was convicted in May 1999 of murdering a family of three, including an eight-year-old girl. “After robbing and shooting the victims with a stun gun, Lee covered their heads with plastic bags, sealed the bags with duct tape, weighed down each victim with rocks, and threw the family of three into the Illinois bayou,” the DOJ said in a statement.

Lezmond Mitchell is scheduled to be executed Dec. 11. Mitchell was convicted in 2003 of stabbing to death a 63-year-old grandmother and, according to the DOJ, forcing “her nine-year-old granddaughter to sit beside her lifeless body for a 30 to 40-mile drive.” “Mitchell then slit the girl’s throat twice, crushed her head with 20-pound rocks, and severed and buried both victims’ heads and hands,” the Justice Department said.

Wesley Ira Purkey is scheduled to be executed on Dec. 13. Purkey was convicted in 2003 of raping and murdering a 16-year-old girl before dismembering, burning and dumping the girl’s body in a septic pond. “He also was convicted in state court for using a claw hammer to bludgeon to death an 80-year-old woman who suffered from polio and walked with a cane,” DOJ said.

Alfred Bourgeois is scheduled to be executed Jan. 13. He was convicted in 2004 of torturing, sexually molesting and beating to death his two-and-a-half-year-old daughter.

Dustin Lee Honken is scheduled to be executed on Jan. 15. He was convicted in 2004 of shooting and killing five people: two men who planned to testify against him, as well as a single mother and her two daughters.

The Justice Department said each of the inmates have exhausted appeal efforts and will be executed at the U.S. Penitentiary Terre Haute, Indiana.

DOJ said additional executions of federal prisoners will be scheduled at a later date.

The executions will be the first in the federal prison system since 2003. In 2014, then-President Barack Obama directed the department to conduct a review of capital punishment and issues surrounding lethal injection drugs. That review resulted in what effectively was a freeze on executions.

The department says the Bureau of Prisons has completed the review and the executions can continue.

Executions on the federal level have been rare. The government has put to death only three defendants since restoring the federal death penalty in 1988, the most recent of which occurred in 2003, when Louis Jones was executed for the 1995 kidnapping, rape and murder of a young female soldier.

EDITOR’S NOTE: Don’t look for the executions to proceed as scheduled. There are likely to be more last minute appeals.

FEDS SET TO BEGIN TERMINAL REHABILITATION OF CRIMINALS

by Bob Walsh

William Barr has directed the BOP to start warming up the needles and to begin executions.

There has not been a federal execution n 16 years. There are five executions tentatively scheduled for the end of this year and early next year. Whether or not they will actually occur is an open question at the moment.

All of the current prospects are convicted of murdering children. The most senior of the cretins has been on death row for 20 years, for murdering three people including an eight-year old girl. There are currently 62 condemned federal prisoners, including one woman. Of the five on the current list, three are White, one is Black and one is AMI.

SLUGS WHO ATTACKED OFFICERS SHOUL HAVE BEEN BUSTED - AND I MEAN BUSTED - AT THE TIME OF THE ATTACKS

Multiple suspects in custody for dousing NYPD cops with water

By Larry Celona, Stephanie Pagones, Tina Moore and Natalie Musumeci

New York Post
July 24, 2019

The NYPD has busted three men, including a reputed Crips gang member on probation, in connection with the caught-on-video water-dousing of cops in Harlem and Brooklyn, law enforcement sources told The Post on Wednesday.

Gangbanger Courtney “Killer Court” Thompson, 28, of the Crips subset “Fresh Gangstas” surrendered Wednesday morning at the 73rd Precinct stationhouse for his alleged involvement in the Brownsville drenching incident, sources said.

Thompson, a Brownsville resident, was hit with charges of obstruction of governmental administration, criminal nuisance, criminal tampering, disorderly conduct and harassment, police said.

He has more than 20 prior arrests on his record, including for assault, said sources, who noted that most of the busts are sealed.

Thompson has been on probation since 2018 in connection with a 2015 robbery bust, according to sources.

NYPD Chief of Department Terence Monahan tweeted about Wednesday’s arrest, but did not name the suspect.

“Actions like we’ve seen in videos recently will NEVER be tolerated in this city. YOU WILL BE ARRESTED,” Monahan said in the tweet.

NYPD Chief of Detectives Dermot Shea also tweeted about the arrest, and included a screenshot of the suspect showing him tossing a blue bucket of water on a cop.

Two other suspects were taken into custody at the 28th Precinct stationhouse Wednesday in connection with a similar incident in Harlem, where uniformed officers were captured on video getting soaked with buckets of water while making an arrest, sources said.

Both of the weekend incidents, which were caught on camera and were widely circulated on social media, show buckets of water being thrown at cops.

The Harlem incident, in which two cops were soaked while they were handcuffing a suspect on the hood of a black car, happened at West 115th Street and Seventh Avenue on Sunday, sources said.

Isaiah Scott, 23, of Roebling, New Jersey, was identified as one of the two nabbed in connection with the Harlem incident, but “he was not arrested for anything to do with the cops,” police sources said.

Sources say Scott poured water on a female civilian and was charged with criminal mischief for damaging her cellphone.

He was not involved in any of the actions against the police, according to sources.

Chad Bowden, 28, was charged with criminal mischief, two counts of harassment and disorderly conduct for the incident involving the woman, police sources said.

Footage of the Brooklyn incident, which happened Saturday on East New York Avenue, shows two cops in totally wet uniforms walking away as even more water is flung at them.

At one point in that clip, Thompson allegedly can be seen dumping a full blue bucket of water on the back of one of the cops, who continues to walk away.

The water incidents sparked mass outrage among Big Apple dignitaries, NYPD brass and department unions, and even Vice President Mike Pence, who tweeted about the matter Tuesday.

“This conduct is disgraceful. President @realDonaldTrump and I will ALWAYS stand with the brave men & women of our law enforcement who serve on the thin blue line everyday. #StandWithNYPD,” Pence said in the tweet.

How MS-13 Gang’s Bloody Campaign Spilled Into A San Fernando Valley High School

LAPPL News Watch
July 25, 2019

Panorama High School was already on edge after a 10th grader went missing. Then, six students were detained in February 2018 with no explanation. There were whispers that the missing boy had been murdered, but the campus was in the dark about a possible motive and suspect.

Authorities now say several of the students are linked to the killing of their missing classmate, Brayan Andino, and another man among seven slayings allegedly carried out by a local clique of MS-13.

The high school has emerged as a disturbing backdrop to what authorities describe as a reign of terror in the San Fernando Valley by the notoriously violent street gang with a strong presence in both the U.S. and El Salvador.

But teachers, students and parents said they received little or no information from either police or school officials about the gang’s alleged operations on campus until last week, when prosecutors announced murder and racketeering charges against nearly two dozen adults who are alleged to be gang members.

Bryer Schmegelsky, 18, and Kam Mcleod, 19, have been on the run from police now for several days after being named as suspects in the deaths of Lucas Fowler, Chynna Deese and a previously unidentified older man who was named on Wednesday as 64-year-old Leonard Dyck.

Dyck's body was found near the teenage boys' burned out car on July 18 in British Columbia. It has taken days for him to be identified, but his family say they are devastated by his death.

On Wednesday, police confirmed that they had found Bryer and Kam's second car - a Toyota RAV4 - torched in a remote area of Manitoba, more than 1,000 miles from where they'd been spotted earlier in the week and a considerable distance from where the murders took place.

Now, checkpoints are in place in the remote area and the Royal Canadian Mountain Police are on high alert across the country to find the pair.

Alan Schmegelsky, Bryer's father, told The Canadian Press he believes the pair will be dead by tomorrow, if they're not already. 'Mounties are gonna shoot first and ask questions later,' he said, referring to the teams of Royal Canadian Mounted Police which are scouring the vast rural area, hunting the boys.

ISRAEL WIDENS ITS WAR AGAINST IRAN

“We will act against you wherever and whenever,” says Netanyahu in new video warning to Iran

By Yochanan Visser

Israel Today
July 25, 2019

While Israel continues its aerial campaign against Iranian targets in Syria the Israeli military seems to have widened its campaign against the Quds Force of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) to Iraq.

This became clear from reports in the Arab and Iranian media and from the publication of a video with a statement made by Israeli Prime Minister Benyamin Netanyahu.

On Thursday last week, unknown unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV’s or drones) attacked an Iranian base in the Salah al-Din district near the town of Amerli in northern Iraq.

The base was manned by Iranian Quds Force members and fighters of the al-Hashd al-Shaabi umbrella organization of pre-dominantly Shiite militias and killed and wounded an unknown number of them.

The Iraqi government immediately ordered an investigation into the incident but stopped short of providing more details about the mysterious attack.

The IRGC-affiliated news site Fars News, citing the Arab news site al-Ahd, later reported that the attack was carried out with three Harop loitering missiles which are produced by Israel Aerospace Industries and which are in use by the IAF.

According to the London-based Arab news outlet Al-Arabiya the attack took place after the Shia Al-Shuhada militia of al-Hashd al-Shaabi had received new Iranian ballistic missiles.

The stockpile of Iranian missiles at the Al-Shuhada military base included Zelzal, Fateh-110 and Zolfaqar types. The latter is a ballistic missile with a reach of 700 kilometers and could be used against Israel since the Al-Shahada base is close to the Syrian border.

Speculations about Israel’s involvement in the attack on the Iraqi based increased after the Likud party in Israel published a video in which PM Netanyahu threatened to attack Iranian targets in Iraq.

“We will act against you (Iran) in Iraq. We will act against you wherever and whenever,” Netanyahu said in the video which was comparing his role as statesman to the possibility that former talk-show host and Blue and White party leader Yair Lapid would become the Prime Minister of Israel.

This was not the first time an aerial attack on al-Hashd al-Shaabi has been attributed to the Israeli Air Force (IAF).

In June 2018, drones were used to attack a base of a militia belonging to the umbrella organization killing between 20 and 40 Shiite fighters of the paramilitary force which will be fully integrated in the Iraqi army by the end of July.

At the time, an US official said that the IAF had carried out the attack near the town of Khari southeast of Al-Bukamal on the Syria-Iraq border.

The border town is located along the land bridge Iran has created over the past few years in northern Iraq and southeast Syria.

Al-Hashd al-Shaabi is an organization that takes its orders from Qassem Soleimani the commander of the Quds Force and is fully dependent on Iranian aid Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, the Deputy Commanderof the mainly Shiite and Turkmen force revealed last week.

The support of the Islamic Republic (of Iran) has been essential, and the youth of Hezbollah had an essential role in training, planning, and supporting (the Al-Hashd al Shaabi factions),” Muhandis said during a speech in the southern Iraqi city of Basra.

“The Islamic Republic opened its treasury for us when weapons and ammunition were lacking. With (Iranian) support, we were able to defeat (Islamic State) militarily,” he added.

Israel, meanwhile, is continuing its campaign against Hezbollah and the Quds Force in Syria and reportedly carried out two operations on Syrian soil over the past few days.

On Tuesday night the IAF again bombed a base near the Tel al-Hara look-out on the the Syrian Golan Heights.

The base is in use by Hezbollah and Iranian forces and functions as an intelligence gathering center on the movements by the Israeli army on the Israeli Golan Heights for the Iranian axis.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported extensive damage and said there were casualties as well.

Hezbollah is currently moving forces from bases in Syria to the border with Israel in both Lebanon and Syria The Daily Beast citing interviews with Hezbollah commanders reported last week.

Hezbollah’s activities on the Golan Heights most likely led to a second Israeli strike which killed Mashur Zidan one of the top commanders of the terrorist organization.

Zidan, a resident of the Druze village of Hader near Mount Hermon on the Golan Heights, was reportedly recruiting volunteers for Hezbollah’s ‘Golan Portfolio’ and was killed by a large improvised explosive device which exploded when he was driving his car in the al-Qadam neighborhood in Damascus.

The liquidation bore the hallmarks of a Mossad operation observers pointed out.

The Israeli spy agency carried out similar liquidations of Hezbollah commanders in Syria in the past.

One of them was Samir Kuntar a terrorist who spent 30 years in Israeli prisons for his role in the murder of an Israeli family and was released in 2008 on July 2008, under a a prisoner swap agreement between Hezbollah and Israel.

Another assassination which has been attributed to the Mossad and the CIA took place in Damascus on February 12, 2008 when Hezbollah’s terror mastermind Imad Mughniyeh was killed by a bomb hidden in the luggage trunk of his car.

CIVIL RIGHTS LEADER JOHN LEWIS IS A FIRST-DEGREE HYPOCRITE

The acclaimed civil rights leader cosponsored Ilhan Omar’s racist House resolution in support of BDS

In talking about President Trump, Congressman John Lewis told the House: “I know racism when I see it. I know racism when I feel it. And at the highest level of government, there’s no room for racism.” Let me elaborate on that.

My parents and I came to America as Jewish refugees from Nazi Germany in July 1936, exactly 83 years ago. My father had held an executive position with Karstadt, a large German department store chain. The Nazis demanded that the company be Judenrein, and because my father was a Jude, Karstadt was forced to fire him. We were fortunate to have a sponsor in the US. Both sets of my grandparents were shipped off to concentration camps and never heard from again.

John Lewis is an acclaimed civil rights leader. Lewis was chairman of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee and was one of the leaders of the 1963 March on Washington during which MLK gave his famous “I Have A Dream” speech.

That was then and this is now. Ilhan Omar has introduced a House resolution in support of BDS. She found only two cosponsors – Rashida Tlaib, as can be expected, and John Lewis.

The true purpose of the BDS movement is to destroy Israel. Mahmoud Abbas and other PLO leaders have repeatedly vowed there will be only one state, a Palestinian state that is Judenrein. If the BDS supporters and the Palestinians achieve their goal, making Palestine Judenrein will require the expulsion or the genocide of the six million Jewish people in Israel.

As a civil rights leader John Lewis is a first-degree hypocrite. By cosponsoring Omar’s BDS resolution, Lewis is supporting racism, pure and simple. Lewis is not only a racist, but he is also anti-Semitic! I say that because … I know racism too and I know anti-Semitism when I see it.

MUELLER

So, is he hard of hearing, going senile or is his thorazine dose too high? None of these, of course, are mutually exclusive.

I can practically hear the Democraps crying all the way from D.C.

A POLITICAL PEA-SOUPER SO FOGGY THAT EVEN MUELLER DIDN’T SEEM TO KNOW WHAT THE HELL HE WAS TALKING ABOUT

Shambolic Mueller's train wreck testimony has left his reputation trashed, the dumbstruck Democrats dead as dodos and President Trump laughing all the way to a second term

By Piers Morgan

Daily Mail

My God… what a shambles!

Special Counsel Robert Mueller came to Congress with a stellar reputation as one of the sharpest, most experienced, reliable and brilliant legal minds in America.

By the time he’d finished his stumbling, bumbling, obfuscating, dithering appearances before the House Judiciary Committee and House Intelligence Committee, that reputation lay in tatters.

Frankly, he was embarrassing.

He looked old, bleary-eyed, exhausted, and slightly out of it.

I take no pleasure in saying this because Mueller has served his country with great distinction, as a decorated war hero, highly regarded lawyer and respected FBI director.

But none of that excuses his dismal performance today, which did a grave disservice to the American national interest.

This was supposed to be the moment of clarity, the moment when Americans could finally get all remaining questions answered about this whole sorry Russia collusion affair – straight from the horse’s mouth, on live television.

Instead, they got a political pea-souper so foggy that even Mueller didn’t seem to know what the hell he was talking about.

In perhaps the single most staggering exchange – one I could barely believe I was watching - Mueller was asked by Republican congressman Doug Collins if ‘collusion’ and ‘conspiracy’ were, in colloquial language, ‘largely synonymous’ terms.

In other words, to most people’s understanding, they have the same meaning.

Mueller replied firmly: ‘No.’

Yet, as Collins pointed out, in Mueller’s own report and in his May 29 press conference, he said the complete opposite.

‘So would you change your answer to “yes” then?’ Collins asked, given this complete contradiction.

Mueller stammered ‘No’, then scrabbled around looking frantically at a piece of paper, before asking Collins to repeat his very simple, unambiguous question.

Collins read again Mueller’s own words from his own report, stating that ‘collusion’ and conspiracy’ are ‘largely synonymous’ words.

At which point, Mueller gave up trying to explain his baffling U-turn on this crucial point, and told Collins: ‘I leave it with the report.’

Incredibly, he later made things even worse when he forgot the word ‘conspiracy’ altogether.

‘We don’t use the word ‘collusion’,’ he stated in the latter part of the day. ‘We use…’

He couldn’t finish the sentence.

He couldn’t remember what word they use instead.

He had to be told by his questioner that the word was ‘conspiracy’.

Yes, the Special Counsel investigating alleged conspiracy into collusion with Russia, forgot the name of the very thing he was supposed to be investigating.

It was almost beyond parody.

Why does the Mueller’s collusion-definition-confusion matter so much?

Because legally, conspiracy is a criminal offense and collusion isn’t.

This is an absolutely fundamental distinction that goes to the very heart of Mueller’s investigation.

His abject failure to be consistent about something so basic was both shocking and a fiasco for Democrats who’d bet all their chips on Mueller’s live TV testimony landing a killer blow to President Trump that the written report failed to do.

Contrary to all the absurdly disingenuous spinning by hyper-partisan media and social media commentators, Mueller said nothing new today.

He just parroted the same conclusions he wrote in his report: no collusion, no conspiracy and no determination of obstruction of justice over the crime he says didn’t happen, or whether Trump should face any indictment once he leaves office.

So in terms of dropping new bombshells that might help Democrats push for impeachment, Mueller delivered a nothing-burger.

But in their wildest nightmares, the Democrats could surely never have imagined that Mueller’s testimony would actually HELP Donald Trump?

Yet that’s what it did.

In another spectacular lowlight, Mueller didn’t even know what Fusion GPS is - despite it being the name of the infamous firm paid by Hillary Clinton’s campaign that used a former British spy to dig up a salacious dirty dossier on Trump.

Michael Moore, the firebrand liberal filmmaker who is desperate to see Trump ousted from the White House, tweeted:

‘A frail old man, unable to remember things, stumbling, refusing to answer basic questions…I said it in 2017 and Mueller confirmed it today – all pundits and moderates and lame Dems who told the public to put their faith in the esteemed Robert Mueller.. just STFU from now on.’

Distraught Moore added: ‘Trump must be gloating in ecstasy…because he understands the power of the visual and he understands the Dems aren’t street fighters and that’s why he’ll win.’

Other leading Democrat voices were equally appalled.

‘This is very, very painful,’ tweeted David Axelrod, President Obama’s former senior aide, half way through Mueller’s testimony.

He wasn’t talking about any pain to Trump, as was anticipated. He was talking about the excruciating pain of Mueller’s disastrous performance.

If this is what Trump-loathing liberals were thinking about Mueller’s testimony, just imagine how gleeful Trump and Republicans must be feeling tonight?

This wasn’t just a train wreck - it was a multiple pile up of every train in the United States all colliding at the same time and exploding into a gigantic, catastrophic fireball.

As Fox News host Chris Wallace, no great fan of Trump, said in a savage critique that was instantly retweeted by the President: ‘I think this has been a disaster for the Democrats, and I think it’s been a disaster for the reputation of Robert Mueller. He doesn’t seem to know things that are in the report. I think it does raise questions about the degree to which he actually was in charge of and in control of this report… the investigation, because he doesn’t seem to be in charge of what the report actually says.’

That was exactly my sentiment too.

Special Counsel Mueller blew it today.

He had a chance to bring this all to a close, to be definitive with his statements and clear with his opinions.

Instead, he blathered away like an ill-informed nervous elderly rabbit in headlights – absurdly contradicting himself, dodging endless questions, and often looking like he had no real grasp of either what was in his own report or what it really meant with regard to the point of his investigation.

Yet ironically, through his dreadful ineptitude, he almost certainly HAS brought things to a close.

How can Democrats, and the anti-Trump media for that matter, possibly keep this Russia collusion nonsense going any longer after today?

The more they try, the stronger it will play for Trump.

White House Counsel Jay Sekulow said after the hearings finished: ‘The American people understand that this issue is over. They also understand that the case is closed.’

I suspect he’s absolutely right.

But the impact of today’s debacle may have far greater significance.

The Democrats, whose pathetic obsession with bogus Russia collusion has caused them huge political damage, are now left licking massively deeper self-inflicted wounds just when they’re already facing an uphill battle to win the 2020 election.

And President Trump, who must have been laughing his head off watching Mueller self-implode, will probably continue laughing all the way to a second term.

EDITOR’S NOTE: Now maybe, just maybe, those two lynch mob leaders, Jerry Nadler and Adam Schit – oops, that’s a typo – will finally stop their incessant accusations that the President is a criminal. But Nadler wants to goe ahead with a subpoena for former White House Counsel Don McGahn to force him to testify that Trump tried to get him to fire the special counsel in order to end the investigation.

And Nadler says his committee has the authority to start impeachment proceedings without a full vote of the House.

DEMOCRATS WHO SAY MUELLER PROVED TRUMP GUILTY OF OBSTRUCTION MUST HAVE BEEN SMOKING TOO MUCH FUNNY TOBACCO

Pelosi rebuffs Nadler on impeachment after Mueller flop

By John Bresnahan, Heather Caygle and Kyle Cheney

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerry Nadler pushed to launch impeachment proceedings against President Donald Trump during a closed-door meeting Wednesday, only to be rebuffed by Speaker Nancy Pelosi, according to four sources familiar with the discussions.

At a caucus meeting following the hotly anticipated testimony of special counsel Robert Mueller, Nadler suggested that several House committee chairs could begin drafting articles of impeachment against Trump. Pelosi called the idea premature, said the sources.

Mueller's appearance was a disappointment to many Democrats, as the former FBI director stumbled at times, even seeming unsure of the contents of his 448-page report on Russian election interference and Trump's efforts to obstruct the investigation.

Pelosi convened the Democratic caucus following Mueller's appearance before the Judiciary and Intelligence panels. A lengthy, animated discussion about the impeachment process followed.

Sources said rank-and-file lawmakers asked about the technical aspects of an impeachment inquiry, including whether it would require a full vote of the House or could be initiated by the Judiciary Committee.

Nadler indicated that the committee could launch proceedings on its own. Articles filed by Rep. Brad Sherman (D-Calif.) at the outset of this Congress have already been referred to the panel, giving Democrats a vehicle to begin the hugely controversial proceedings. The technical discussion also included a question about how an impeachment case is presented to the Senate.

In the course of the wide-ranging discussion, Nadler countered Pelosi's pushback by noting that polls showed limited support for removing President Richard Nixon from office when the House began impeachment hearings in 1973, but that public support for the effort grew as more evidence came out about Nixon's illegal behavior.

As she has for months, Pelosi argued to her colleagues that the "slow, methodical approach" employed by House Democrats was the right way to move forward, despite the fact that more than 90 of her members have called for an impeachment inquiry to begin now.

Rep. Lori Trahan of Massachusetts became the latest Democrat to endorse the idea on Wednesday, but some pro-impeachment members had hoped for far more lawmakers to join them.

Pelosi also noted Democrats have several lawsuits moving forward in federal court, including cases involving Trump's personal finances and tax returns, said the sources.

Pelosi has insisted Democrats need support from Republicans, or a shift in public sentiment, before even starting an impeachment inquiry against Trump.

A GOP-run Senate is not going to vote to remove Trump from office, at least for now, so Pelosi and other senior Democrats have argued that impeachment is an empty gesture that will only cause a backlash against vulnerable Democrats in 2020.

The meeting adjourned with Democrats agreeing on their next steps: filing a lawsuit to enforce a subpoena against former White House Counsel Don McGahn, who told Mueller that Trump tried to get him to fire the special counsel in order to end the investigation.

During a press conference afterward, Pelosi's opposition to impeachment appeared to soften, although she still won't endorse the idea.

"If we have a case for impeachment, that’s the place we will have to go. Why I’d like it to be a strong case is because it’s based on the facts — the facts and the law, that’s what matters," Pelosi told reporters while showing no signs of her disagreement with Nadler, who stood next to her.

“The stronger our case is, the worse the Senate will look for just letting the president off the hook.”

Pelosi added that Democrats' investigations are “not endless in terms of time.”

“If it comes to a point where the cone of silence and the obstruction of justice and the coverup in the White House prevents us from getting that information, that will not prevent us from going forward and in fact, it’s even more grounds to go forward," Pelosi said.

“Today was a watershed day in telling the facts to the American people. With those facts, we can proceed. And we face a time of great danger,” Nadler added. “This cannot go on. And it’s up to Congress to safeguard the Constitution and we will do it.”

While Mueller's performance was panned by Trump, GOP lawmakers and many media pundits, Democrats insisted it was too soon to say how it might affect the national debate on the president and impeachment.

“I think it’ll depend on how the public views what they saw today," said Rep. Cedric Richmond (D-La.). “Hopefully my colleagues see what I see. We’ve known for a long time that this president went above and beyond to obstruct this investigation. I think the Republicans know it, I think they’re playing defense for their guy.”

While Mueller was largely unwilling to go beyond what was in his March report, there were some surprising moments that Democrats seized upon to damage Trump.

Mueller repeatedly said Wednesday, as he did in his report, that Trump wasn't exonerated by his investigation, and firmly rejected the president’s “no collusion, no obstruction” claims. And Mueller said that Trump could theoretically be charged with a crime after he leaves office.

But there was also an embarrassing "correction" by Mueller that undermined his most damaging revelation from his testimony before the House Judiciary Committee.

Mueller initially stated in response to a question from Rep. Ted Lieu (D-Calif.) that Trump couldn't be indicted because of a previous Justice Department opinion on the issue. Democrats and pundits quickly jumped on it.

However, a short time later, before the Intelligence Committee, Mueller clarified his comment.

"I want to go back to one thing that was said this morning by Mr. Lieu who said, and I quote, ‘You didn't charge the president because of the [Office of Legal Counsel] opinion,'" Mueller said. "That is not the correct way to say it. As we say in the report and as I said at the opening, we did not reach a determination as to whether the president committed a crime."

By midday, Democrats found themselves having to defend Mueller, a development they didn't expect heading into the day.

"He got off to a slow start, but anytime 20 million people are watching you on TV and you're in front of a congressional committee, you're gonna be a little nervous," said Rep. G.K. Butterfield (D-N.C.)., who supports an impeachment inquiry.

“He doesn’t have his finger on every syllable of the report. So to think he would know everything is very unreasonable," asserted Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-Md.). "It’s hard, it’s hard. I think we need to wait and see after they’re finished with the second hearing with the Intelligence Committee. I think we’ll have a better idea of where we’ll be. But so far I’ve been extremely impressed.”

Some pro-impeachment Democrats, especially the hardcore group on the Judiciary Committee, argued that Mueller actually helped their cause.

Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.) said Mueller laid out "overwhelming, devastating evidence" of obstruction of justice by Trump, "even if he took on a far less aggressive role [as a prosecutor] than he could have."

"There was no new evidence today but it was new to about 95 percent of the American people," Raskin added. "All of that is in the report, and I think it's going to gain a whole bunch of new readers after that."
