HUMANS, THE MOST CRUEL OF ALL ANIMALS

The shotgunning of this Koala bear is beyond disgusting. A proper punishment for the subhuman who did this would be to take a shotgun and shoot the asshole in his face, back and limbs. Unfortunately, the law doesn’t allow it.

Australian police are hunting an attacker who blasted a koala with a shotgun at least seven times and left it for dead.

Fleet, a six-year-old male koala, suffered terrible wounds to his face and body after being shot multiple times in an area called Kippa-Ring north of Brisbane.

He was rescued by staff from Australia Zoo from a remote part of Queensland after being spotted by a tourist.

He is currently recovering at the attraction's wildlife hospital.

Dr Amber Gillett, who operated on Fleet, said the injuries were caused by several shotgun blasts.

She said: 'Fleet has one pellet lodged in his skull, lower back and behind his ear as well as one pellet in each limb which would indicate he was deliberately shot from all angles'.

Fleet is now said to be in a stable condition despite having an infection in his right leg and will undergo more operations to remove the pellets from his body.

He is being treated with an intravenous drip, antibiotics, various fluids and painkillers.

Fleet is the fourth koala treated at the zoo for gunshot wounds in the past two years.

Dr Gillett added: 'I am stunned to see this kind of animal cruelty, and cannot begin to fathom why somebody would want to shoot a koala that poses no threat to them.

'Koala populations are already in decline and incidents such as this add unnecessary pressure to a species already struggling to survive.'

Police in Queensland said they were appealing for information leading to the whereabouts of Fleet's attacker.

Koalas are protected animals in Australia and the maximum penalty for harming one is $300k or two years imprisonment.
