Garden City is home to about 1,600 people. Last year they responded to about 2,000 calls for service. On Wednesday the city council layed off the entire police force except for the Chief of Police. No explanation was given.
The police force consisted of seven paid officers and five reserve volunteers.
The Cass County S.O. will take over police services in Garden City when the chief is not available to personally respond.
