FIRED FOR GETTING KNOCKED UP

By Bob Walsh

Victoria Crisitello

Victoria Crisitello, a former art teacher at St. Theresa School in Kenilworth, who was fired after she disclosed that she was unmarried and pregnant.

Victoria Crisitello was, by all accounts, a good employee.  She worked as a caregiver in a school in Kenilworth, N J. starting in 2011.  In 2014 she was approached by the school principle to take a full-time teaching position as an art teacher.  During that interview Ms. Crisitello told the principle she was pregnant.  A few weeks later she was fired.

The school was St. Theresa's.  The principle was Sister Theresa Lee.  The cause of being sacked was engaging in premarital sex, which violates the ethics code of the church and the school.

In 2014 Ms. Crisitello filed a lawsuit alleging violation of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act.

Two days ago the N.J. Supreme Court ruled in favor of the school.  The court stated that the school could legitimately use religious tenet exceptions from the state labor law to enforce their beliefs.  Ms. Crisitello had signed an agreement before her employment indicating that she was aware of the rules, including the no fucking without marriage requirement.

The state AG was pissed.
