HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – The Harris County Sheriff’s Office said a deputy has been shot in northeast Harris County.
According to Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez, the deputy was shot in the 13500 block of Homestead Road. The deputy was transported to the hospital by Lifeflight.
Gonzalez said the 29-year-old deputy was conducting a traffic stop on Homestead Road when the shooting happened.
“Within about a minute or so, our dispatcher received reports that the officer was down and witnesses began to advise us that there was an officer that was wounded at the scene. Within a couple of minutes, EMS was able to move in and begin life-saving measures and a few minutes after that Lifeflight was requested at the scene and ultimately transported the deputy here to the hospital,” Gonzalez said.
The wounded deputy is said to be in critical, but stable condition.
“He received at least two bullet wounds to his upper torso and at this point we are just praying that he makes a full recovery,” Gonzalez said.
The suspect fled the scene, according to Gonzalez.
The sheriff’s office said the suspect was said to be wearing a gray shirt and black shorts. He may be driving a blue Ford Escape with license plate SVJ6590.
“I do want to also add that there may have been other people in the vehicle as well,” Gonzalez said.
Gonzalez said the wounded deputy has been with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office for the past year and three months.
The Texas Department of Public Safety issued a Blue Alert for Terran Green, a possible suspect in the case.
