Riley Gaines has slammed the inclusion of 'transgender' boxers at Paris 2024 Olympics
The
United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee acting on Tuesday ruled
that women's competition is now limited to actual women. This committee
oversees competition for spots on the US Olympic teams.
The
USA Fencing Team has already ruled that, effective August 1, the new
Olympic rules will control their competition. Other sanctioning and
governing bodies seem likely to follow along.
The
Ted Stevens Olympic and Amateur Sports Act of 1998 sets up parameters
for fighting over eligibility and disputes regarding eligibility in this
arena.
Only women's
competition was addressed. Presumably trans-gender persons, non-binary
persons and others with similar issues will still be free to compete on
men's teams.
The USOPC did
state that, since this is a US national organization they have some
need to go along with the federal program. It wasn't real clear how
happy they were about the outcome but they do seem to recognize the
reality of the situation.
Looks
like Truth, Justice and the American Way (as well as Donald Trump
personally and female athletes in general) have won a biggie.
