TONY BENNETT SHOULD RETRIEVE HIS HEART FROM SAN FRANCISCO

Tony Bennett’s signature song, “I Left My Heart In San Francisco,” was about a city that sadly no longer is. The movie “Milk” may have won a slew of Oscars but, unfortunately, ever since Harvey Milk got elected mayor, the city has been on a downward spiral and has degenerated into what Bob Walsh calls a cesspool.

The San Francisco P.D. (which, by the way, has the worst homicide clearance rate of any major city in the country) is more or less in search of a group of 4 or 5 men who stabbed a man to death in the Mission District shortly after midnight on Sunday morning.

There are times when I feel that San Francisco is overrun with dangerous crazies and generic criminals. I have been there I think twice in the last ten years. Both times were in daylight and I was damn sure armed.

Unfortunately San Francisco's combination of political correctness, official tolerance of all forms of social deviance (including anti-social violence) and a police department whose leadership is chosen for their political sensitivity rather than their ability to to the job has turned that once fine city into a cesspool. Damn shame.
