POLICE DOG PROTECTING HIS PARTNER BITES GOOD GUY

A lot of firefighters would rather be cops. The bitten firefighter, at least before this incident, must have been among those wanting to be cops.

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — A police dog bit a firefighter in Tennessee who was trying to help apprehend a burglary suspect Wednesday.

K-9 Officer Trey Mansfield released the dog when a suspect refused to stop at the scene of the burglary, according to the Daily News Journal.

The dog was running after the suspect when Murfreesboro Firefighter Lance Sutton appeared on the scene after a witness to the burglary called his firehouse.

"As the K-9 was running toward the burglar, an unidentified person (later identified as Sutton) came running out from between two houses toward the officer and dog at what appeared to be a full sprint," police spokesman Kyle Evans told the newspaper.

"The dog, which is trained to respond to the greatest threat, honed in on (Sutton)."

While the dog "apprehended" Firefighter Sutton, the cop managed to catch up with the burglary suspect to arrest him.

Sutton needed hospital treatment for serious bite wounds in the incident.
