BAN HAMMERS AND CLUBS, NOT ASSAULT RIFLES

Where is the outrage against hammer and club violence when the FBI reports there are more killings by these instruments than by assault rifles?

Would you believe that more people are murdered with hammers and clubs than by assault rifles? Well you better believe it because that’s what the FBI reports. Furthermore, twice as many people are killed by hands and fists than by assault rifles.

Senator Feinstein, while you’re at it, why don’t you amend your bill banning assault rifles to include hammers and clubs? Mayor Bloomberg, since you are leading the charge against gun violence, where is your outrage against hammer and club violence? And would you, Madam Senator and Mr. Mayor, consider cutting the right hand off of right-handed people and cutting the left hand off of left-handed people?

Since the massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, Conn., on Dec. 14, Democrats have made reinstatement of the assault weapons ban a major priority for the 113th Congress despite the fact that relatively few murders are killed with weapons that would be banned.

From 2005 through 2011, more people in the U.S. were killed with hammers and clubs, or with hands and fists, than with rifles, which is what the ban likely would have the most effect on, reports Breitbart.

There were 496 murders committed with hammers and clubs in 2011, as compared with 323 deaths connected to a rifle, according to FBI records. In 2006, there were 618 killings committed with a hammer or club, and 438 murders with a rifle. Many years, twice as many people were killed with hands and fists than with rifles.

“While the FBI makes is clear that some of the ‘murder by rifle’ numbers could be adjusted up slightly, when you take into account murders with non-categorized types of guns,” wrote Awr Hawkins, continuing that “it does not change the fact that their annual reports consistently show more lives are taken each year with these blunt objects than are taken with Feinstein's dreaded rifle.”

Because many people hate and are afraid of guns, and hate people who like and own guns. Very few people hate or are afraid of hammers, and most people own one. There are a lot of hoplophobes in the world, and they don't realize they are in fact mentally ill. They don't realize that "assault" is a verb rather than a noun. It is hard to be judgemental against personal actions if you are a good libeal, so they become judgmental about the instrument. It's easy, like liberalism. It doens't fix anything, but it allows you to feel good about yourself (and bad about others who don't think like you do).
