TAXPAYERS FUNDING SANDY HOOK FAMILIES IN GUN CONTROL CAMPAIGN

On April 8, President Obama took eleven Sandy Hook families to Washington on Air Force One to lobby Congress for passage of new gun control measures. They’ve been contacting senators ever since and say they will stay in the nation’s capita until the voting ends. And on Saturday, Francine Wheeler who lost her six-year-old son in the Newtown shooting, made an emotional and tearful plea for gun control in place of Obama’s weekly address to the nation.

Obama and the Democrats have long-sought to gut the Second Amendment and are exploiting the Newtown families who lost their children in the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting as a means of achieving their goal. Can there be any doubt that the Obama administration is paying the expenses of the lobbying Sandy Hook families? They’ve been at it now for a week. Hotels rooms and meals in D.C. do not come cheap. I know because I’ve been there for a couple of narcotic officers meetings, and that was years ago.

Unless all of them are quite wealthy, those eleven families can ill afford to pay for their extensive and expensive stay in Washington. You know they're not staying at a Motel 6 and they're not eating at a McDonald's either. Hence, the taxpayers must be picking up their tab.

I am strongly opposed to banning so called ‘assault rifles’ and high capacity magazines. Those measures will not stop criminals, gangbangers and nutcases from acquiring AR-15s, AK-47s and high capacity magazines. Those bans would only penalize law abiding citizens. I can however support some expansion of background checks for gun sales, but only if the records of those background checks are not retained. If the government is allowed to keep those records it will be opening the door to the eventual confiscation of guns by the government.

I sympathize with and grieve for the families who lost their children in that tragic shooting. But that tragedy does not justify the government’s bankrolling of the Sandy Hook families. You can bet your life that the government would not let the taxpayers pick up my tab if I were to go to Washington to lobby senators against passing Obama, Biden and Schumer's new gun control proposals.

The government is not about to bankroll any individual citizens for a trip to and a stay in Washington to lobby against gun control legislation and the government should not pay for the expenses of the Sandy Hook families in their lobbying efforts either. Let some billionaire like Michael Bloomberg or George Soros pay their way, not the taxpayers!
