An email sent to Orlando police Chief John Mina by one of his lieutenants confirms that accused cop killer Markeith Loyd is blind in one eye because of the force used by officers who arrested him.

At 5 a.m. Jan. 18, Lt. Dan Brady sent Mina an update on Loyd’s condition at the hospital.

“[Orlando Regional Medical Center] needed to perform surgery on his left eye and as a result the doctor said he will be permanently blind in his left eye,” Brady wrote. “This was as a result of the injuries Loyd received during his response to resistance.”

Police released a tape of Loyd’s Jan. 17 arrest that showed one of the officers kicking Loyd in the head after he crawled out of the home in which he was hiding, saying that they used force because he resisted. The email confirms what Loyd has said in court about the extent of the injury to his eye.

Loyd is charged with first-degree murder in the Jan. 9 death of Orlando police Lt. Debra Clayton. Loyd managed to escape and evade a huge manhunt until Jan. 17, when he was discovered in an abandoned house and surrendered.

A month before Clayton was killed, Loyd shot and killed his pregnant ex-girlfriend, Sade Dixon, authorities allege. Clayton was trying to arrest him for that homicide the morning she was killed.

Special Prosecutor Brad King formally filed notice on Tuesday that he intends to seek the death penalty against Loyd for both of those crimes, something that Orange-Osceola State Attorney Aramis Ayala said she would not do. That paperwork was made public Tuesday.

The emails, obtained by the Orlando Sentinel on Tuesday, are dated from Jan. 17 to 20.

They do not offer much insight into his arrest — most of them are from media sources requesting to interview Mina and from people offering their congratulations on the arrest.

Mina sent out a department-wide email about the arrest at 7:46 p.m. Jan. 17.

“Tonight at approximately 1900 hours, Markeith Loyd was arrested,” Mina wrote. “Debra Clayton’s handcuffs were placed on him and he has been transported to OPH. Job well done!”

Another email said it was Lt. Doug Goerke who actually put Clayton’s handcuffs on Loyd when he was taken into custody.

Until this week, Loyd was insistent on representing himself in court. He reversed course and requested a Miami-based attorney represent him. Judge Frederick Lauten has not yet ruled on that request.

King was appointed by Gov. Rick Scott to handle both murder cases after Ayala announced that she would not seek the death penalty against anyone during her term.

On Monday, Scott signed another series of executive orders, taking 21 other murder cases away from Ayala and reassigning them to King.

Ayala has criticized Scott for making those re-assignments, calling them unprecedented and a violation of her authority.

In each death penalty notice filed against Loyd on Tuesday, King gave a list of reasons why, under Florida’s statutes, Loyd should be given a death sentence

Each homicide was especially heinous, atrocious or cruel, he wrote; they were carried out in a cold and calculating manner and Loyd has a history of violence. Investigators say Loyd shot Clayton four times — at least once while standing near her as she lay on the ground, according to Mina.

Loyd’s next court hearing is scheduled for April 12.

EDITOR’S NOTE: The officer who kicked Loyd in the head must have thought he was kicking the worthless piece of shit in the ass.

Too bad the cop just didn't say he was reaching underneath him, thought it was for a gun, and shoot him.
