There is a very good piece from today’s LA TIMES on the general subject of “gun violence.” The article points out (correctly) that many of the legislative proposals that were supposed to cut down on gun violence had virtually zero effect. When those parameters did change, like the sunset of the federal “assault weapons” ban or the Florida must-issue gun permit law, the up-tick in violence that the nanny-staters predicted likewise did not occur.
It seems that the overwhelming amount of “gun violence” in the US is fueled by criminal gangs, especially drug gangs, fighting for territory and market share. The cops and the public know who these people are, as they have to be at least semi-public in order to attract customers. By focusing on these groups the cops can make a serious dent in “gun violence” without infringing on law abiding citizens.
Damn, what a concept. Go after criminals to stop criminal behavior. Maybe somebody should tell DiFi and Nancy Pelosi about it.
