HEAD OF PHILADELPHIA COP UNION SLAMS PROTESTERS

"Where were the protesters at any of the almost daily shootings and killings [of blacks by blacks] in Philadelphia?"

The head of a cop union, speaking Wednesday at a ceremony honoring 83 Philadelphia police officers for valor, bravery and heroism, took the occasion to slam those protesting the grand jury decisions in the Michael Brown and Eric Garner cases, calling them a lynch mob. John McNesby, president of the local Fraternal Order of Police lodge, also noted that there are no mass protests over the daily shootings of blacks by blacks.

Here are some excerpts of McNesby’s remarks:

"We have to guard against a growing trend in this country to replace due process and the legal system with media-fueled mob rule and sensationalism,"

"While it appears to enrage professional hate-mongers, the fact is, police officers are covered by the same constitutional protections that they are risking their lives to protect [for] everyone else."

"As a society we have to soon decide between the rule of law and due process, or a group of inspired lynch mobs."

In the wee hours of Monday morning, two Philly cops shot and killed Brandon Tate-Brown when, after a traffic stop, they became involved in a struggle with the 26-year old black parolee. The killing has created an uproar in the black community. McNesby had harsh words for those getting all exercised over Tate-Brown’s death:

"When our officers are confronted by a convicted, violent felon who should not be out of prison - who is in possession of a stolen, loaded firearm - what else do you want us to do? We're not going to call a timeout. We're not going to call a news hotline."

Police officers, of course, expect their unions to defend them in excessive force complaints. It is good to hear McNesby slam the protesters and Patrick Lynch, president of NYPD’s Patrolmen’s Benevolent Association, blast Mayor de Blasio. Unfortunately, most Americans are not listening to McNesby and Lynch. Instead they are listening to Obama, Holder, Sharpton and numerous talking-heads on TV, all of them labeling white cops as racists whenever they shoot black men.
