ORLANDO SHOOTING SHOWS ‘IF ONLY SOMEONE HAD A GUN’ IS JUST HOT AIR

An off-duty police officer working security at the Pulse nightclub engaged the Islamic terrorist in a shootout but was unable to stop the carnage

Every time there is a mass shooting, whether in the U.S. or abroad, you hear the pro-gunners bellow, “If only someone had a gun.” Well, someone did have a gun at the Pulse nightclub in Orlando when it was attacked by Omar Mateen, an Islamic terrorist.

That someone happened to be an off-duty police officer working security at the nightclub. The officer engaged Mateen in a shootout but had to retreat. The Islamic terrorist continued shooting patrons until he retreated to a bathroom where a SWAT team sent him off to paradise three hours later.

I suppose you could say that the officer prevented many more deaths, but the bottom line is that he was unable to stop the carnage. This is not to take anything away from the officer’s bravery!

Whenever there is a mass shooting, it doesn’t take more than a New York minute for defenders of the Second Amendment right to bear arms to proclaim that if only someone there had been armed, they could have prevented the carnage.

Come on, let’s get real. The chances that armed citizens could have stopped the machinegun toting terrorist with hand guns are slim to none. With several hundred panicked Pulse patrons scrambling in all directions and the terrorist also moving about, it would have been extremely difficult for someone to shoot well enough to stop the mass killings. After all, the nightclub was not a firing range with a stationary target that is not shooting back. Unless an armed citizen had been standing practically next to Omar Mateen, the chances are more likely that he would have shot some of his fellow clubbers.

This is not to say that an armed citizen could never stop some mass shooter, but the chances of that happening are about as good as Bernie Sanders winning the presidency.

If a trained cop cannot stop a mass shooting, what makes anyone think an untrained civilian can do it? That brave off-duty officer at the Pulse nightclub proved that this crap of “If only someone had a gun,” is just a lot of hot air.

I disagree. Twenty years ago a shooter opened up in a bar near Clear Lake City. He wounded one patron. He was tackled by other patrons. He wasn't a mass shooter. He had targeted someone. Patrons rushed him and disarmed him. Had a patron been armed I'm sure he would ha?ve been shot. Of course this is Texas and Texans have a history of shooting and fighting even when the deck is stacked against them.

In my opinion Had the patrons in Florida rushed this guy a lot of lives would have been saved.
