COURT SAYS PUISHMENT FOR SHIT THROWER TOO HARSH

By Bob Walsh

A New Jersey appeals court has ruled that the administrative punishment for a convicted killer for throwing a bucket of shit, piss and hot water onto a correctional officer was too harsh.

Rigoberto Mejia, 57, who is doing a 40-year stretch for murder, when he decided he would make a rope of bed sheets and tie his cell door closed. He claims that he was afraid the officers were going to attack him. He was found guilty in an administrative hearing of throwing bodily fluids, tampering with a locking device and being an asshole. They gave him 1,275 days in administrative segregation.

While the court upheld the guilty finding they said the penalty was “arbitrary and unreasonable” and that he should have done not more than a year in Ad. Seg.

I am guessing nobody ever threw a bucket of hot water, shit and piss at the judge.

Mejia was originally sentenced to die for the murder of a coworker but that sentence was converted to 40 years back in 1995.

EDITOR’S NOTE: I’m surprised the court did not order an investigation of what the CO did to cause a nice old man like 57-year-old Rigoberto Mejia to douse him with feces and pee.
