INTERESTING ATTACK ON THE OPPOSITION

By Bob Walsh

We have written a couple of times recently about Anthony Silva, the Mayor of the crime-ridden and gang-infested burg of Stockton (CA). He recently got his butt in a crack when he was arrested at a summer camp operated in the Sierras by the city.

He has within the last couple of days contacted the San Joaquin County D. A. to assert that a news conference held on the steps of city hall, by his opponent in the upcoming November election and four other city councilmen, was in fact an illegal meeting under the Ralph M. Brown act which concerns open meetings of political and regulatory bodies in California.

The group maintains that even though the group represented in some ways a quorum of the city council that no official business was discussed, no official action was taken and no public notice of the “event” was given. Therefore the news conference does not constitute a meeting under the Brown Act.

The DA declined to comment other than to confirm they had received Silva’s complaint and they are looking it over.
