THOUGHTS ON THINGS THAT OUGHT NOT TO BE DONE

by Bob Walsh

There are some things in the world that, it is generally agreed, a reasonable person ought not to do. You should not pull on Superman's cape. You should not spit into the wind. You should not pull the mask from the Lone Ranger. And you should not poke a big mean dog in the face with a stick.

The formerly great state of California is about to do the latter.

California is an odd place. It has about 42 million residents. At least 30 million of those are legal residents. The Democrat-Socialist party holds a super-majority in both houses of the legislature and all constitutional offices. Most of the area of California is actually centrist to center-right. However the major population centers of the greater Los Angeles area and greater San Francisco Bay area are overwhelmingly uber-liberal.

There is now legislation running thru the system that would, if approved and signed into law, strictly and specifically prohibit any local or state law enforcement officer in the state from cooperating with I.C.E.

In a way I would kind of like to see this idiocy pass. It would, I think, be a hoot to see federal agents arrest the Sheriff and Chief of Police of the City and County of San Francisco, among other places, for violation of federal immigration law. That being said, does anybody out there think that Donald Trump would just let this go? Get real. Now, he might not send out U. S. Marshalls to actually arrest Sheriffs and Police Chiefs. Though he might. He would, however, almost certainly pull the purse strings closed.

Trump doesn't bluff. At least so far he hasn't. What makes anybody think that he would let this slide without taking some sort of action. In a way I would hate to see it because of the disruption it could cause, but damn, wouldn't it be a hoot to watch?

The Governor of Texas has already shut off the money to Travis County (Austin) and people are losing their grant funded jobs. I'll bet before the year is out the legislature will pass a law making it a criminal offense not to cooperate with ICE holds. Texas Rangers may be locking up at least one Sheriff in her own jail.

Editor's note: This story was updated on Wednesday, February 8, 2017, to reflect the Senate's final vote on Senate Bill 4.
The Republican-controlled Texas Senate gave its final stamp of approval on Wednesday to a bill that would gut funding from local and state entities that don’t enforce immigration laws.
Senate Bill 4, filed by state Sen. Charles Perry, would punish local and state government entities and college campuses that refuse to cooperate with federal immigration officials or enforce immigration laws. Wednesday's vote was 20-10 along party lines, with state Sen. José Rodríguez, D-El Paso, absent. Rodriguez was present a day earlier, when the Senate tentatively approved it on a 20-11 vote.
The bill would also punish local governments if their law enforcement agencies fail to honor requests, known as detainers, from federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers to hand over immigrants in custody for possible deportation. Entities in violation would be stripped of state grant funding and also be subject to civil fines. Department heads could also be subject to criminal prosecution if they violate the provisions of the bill. The bill doesn’t apply to victims of or witnesses to crimes, public schools or hospital districts.

It's going to happen. Trump is going to keep his word. How bad it will be, I don't know but there will be a correction in this country. I'm already prepping for civil unrest. The urban areas may be a nightmare. Power grid outages, food and water hoarding and looting on a grand scale. It may not be that bad in Texas because the good ole' boys and girls will prevail. You can make book on that.

If nothing happens at least I'm ready for a hurricane.

Trump offends a lot of people, but in his defense, they're all pussies!

Well, so much for the court ruling. It appears that ICE is conducting a large scale round up of criminal aliens.
