It wouldn't have mattered who Trump picked. The Dems and other liberal whackjobs will got bat-shit crazy and scream that the appointment will mean the end of legal abortions. throwing gay people in prison and shoot-to-kill orders on illegal alien children on the borders. None of that will happen, but the yelling with happen anyway.
There are two Republican senators, both female, who maybe/probably will not support a candidate that they believe will overturn Roe. There are ten Democrat senators who are both up for election this year and whose districts were carried by Trump for more than 10% in the last election. A vote against could result in them being unemployed from the best gig they have ever had or could ever hope to have.
What will win out? Obviously, just from the numbers, Trump will win if the Republicans hang tough and play hardball. I am guessing they will. Now if Ruth Ginsberg will just drop dead the courts could be what they are supposed to be for decades to come.
