COP FIRED IN WAUKEGAN SHOOTING

by Bob Walsh

On Tuesday night the cops spotted a "suspicious vehicle" and when they moved in on it the vehicle took off.  Some time later that evening a second police car spotted the vehicle and successfully pulled it over.  Something went sideways and the cover officer opened fire, killing the passenger in the car and injuring the driver.  The officer who fired asserted that the car started reversing towards him.

On Friday the officer who fired on the car was sacked.  Chief Wayne Welles stated that the officer, who was not named, was fired for "multiple policy and procedure violations."
