The San Francisco Unified School
District is now backing furiously away from a proposed new grading plan
for schools. It would have established the following criteria for
grading.
Student attendance would count zero for final grade.
Turning in homework would count zero for final grade.
Students from socially or economically deprived families would get grading bumps of an unspecified degree.
80% would be an A.
21% would be passing.
The
final would be the sole criteria for grading. The student could take
the final as many times as necessary in order to pass it.
Strangely
enough a fair number of parents thought this was really a dumb-shit
idea. I guess they think it might be nice if a SFUSD diploma actually
meant you could read, write and do basic math at an acceptable level.
Pretty radical fucking idea.
