This little morality play ran itself out on Thursday at the Al Amora Jewelry Store in Anaheim, CA.
Like
a lot of jewelry stores these days the store owner, Mr. Awad, keeps his
front door locked and only unlocks opens it for customers as they
present themselves at his door. On Thursday afternoon there were no
customers in the store at the time when five cars pulled up rapidly in
front of the store and about 20 young masked people bailed out, many
armed with hammers. One of them attacked his front door with a small
sledge hammer. Mr. Awad saw what was developing and grabbed his gat.
When the hammer wielder started in on the door Mr. Awad fired a round.
(It isn't real clear where the round went. Perhaps he had a bullet
catcher at the front of his store. Usually warning shots are not
recommended or legal.) As soon as the shot went off the masked rats ran
like their asses were on fire back into their fleet of cars and took
off.
The Sheriff had no problem with Mr. Awad's actions.
