Before cell phones and DNA evidence I worked patrol in the lower Colorado River Basin (swamp) near the town of Matagorda. I was just learning the lay of the land when a burglary suspect I was transporting 30 miles to Bay City had to pee. I stopped on the side of the road and put the cuffs in front of him so he could do his business. He ran off into the swamp. I radioed the Captain who said "Let him go and do not chase him." We never saw or heard about him again.
