Gavin Newsom, the HMFIC of the formerly great state of California, signed AB-5 two days ago. It is being touted as bringing wage and benefit protection for gig workers, such as Uber, DoorDash and Lyft drivers.
Uber has said that they believe the wording of the law does not apply to them, they will not convert their drivers from contractors to employees, and are prepared to fight it out in court if necessary.
The major gig "employers" are trying to work out a deal that would give the drivers some more goodies but would leave them as non-employees. They have announced that, if they are unsuccessful in reaching some sort of a deal, they will launch a ballot initiative for 2020 and fund it with $90 million dollars.

I hope this will protect the Strippers. They have always been looked over, I mean over looked as hard working professionals.
As a side note, signifying nothing, a town in my area shut down a strip joint a couple of years back because they did not have a handicapped ramp for wheel chair bound strippers to get onto the stage.
