This happened back in October. I guess they have managed to keep it somewhat quiet until now.
Elizabeth
Baggett, 34, shuffled off her mortal coil back then. David Rojas, 27,
now a former LAPD officer, apparently decided to grab a handful or two
while alone with the body. He turned off his body cam, but neglected
the two minute buffer built into the system. (They should have fired
him for being a stupid bastard.) Rojas had four years in at the time.
He has pleaded Not Guilty to one felony count of sexual contact with
human remains and faces four years in the slammer if convicted. (How
would you like to be a cop in the system for necrophilia?)
The
LAPD reported the incident back then, after a supervisor reviewed body
cam footage. He called IA and IA hooked and booked him.
Ms. Baggett was dead and naked when the cops found her. She had apparently overdosed.
The
family is suing Rojas (and presumably the department as well). Part of
the suit concerns release of the video into the public info stream,
which could only have come from within the LAPD.
Ms. Baggett was a successful artist and was often known as Lucid Lizard in the art community.
