Arab media outlets reported on Thursday that an airstrike attributed to
Israel targeted the "Damar Project" area near Damascus, Syria. The area
is a luxury residential district in the northwestern part of the
Damascus metropolitan area. The building that was hit caught fire, but
as of now, no casualties have been reported.
Shortly after the reports emerged, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz
confirmed the IDF Air Force strike. "There will be no immunity for
Islamic terrorism against Israel, not in Damascus and not anywhere else.
Wherever terrorist activity is organized against Israel, the leader of
radical Islam, Julani, will find Israeli fighter jets circling above him
and striking terror targets. We will not allow Syria to become a threat
to the State of Israel," Katz said.
The apartment building was in an upscale neighborhood with well-kept buildings and large gardens in north Damascus.
According to reports, the target was likely a headquarters of the
Palestinian Islamic Jihad terrorist organization. A Syrian security
source told Al-Hadath that the strike was aimed at a Palestinian figure.
