Magisterial District Judge Sonya M. McKnight being escorted by police and mug shot
I mean, how lame do you have to be to shoot somebody in the head while he is sleeping and blow it? How hard can that be?
Sonya
M. McKnight, 58, was just found guilty in Cumberland County, PA for
attempted murder for shooting her boyfriend, Michael McCoy, in the head
while he slept in the house they shared back in February of 2024. She
was allegedly pissed that he wanted her out of the house. The trial
actually took place in Dauphin County as McKnight is (or was, depending
on which news article you believe) a magisterial district judge in
Cumberland County.
The
couple had been together for about a year and McCoy requested that she
get the hell out of the house, which he owned. She refused.
McCoy
woke up with a splitting headache and no vision, though some vision has
returned in at least one eye. He was shot in the face The gun used
belonged to McKnight. Forensic evidence says the shot was fired from
close-up but not contact distance. McKnight had GSR on her hands.
McCoy asserts that he certainly did not shoot himself.
McKnight
has been on suspension from the bench without pay since 2023 due to
multiple allegations of official misconduct. AFTER the trial was over
the jury learned that McKnight had previously shot her husband in he
groin (self-defense) and had been charged with interfering with the
arrest of her son. She beat that rap.
She
was taken into custody immediately following the verdict, pending a $3
million bail. Her sentencing will be in about five weeks. She could
get as much as 60 years. She will not necessarily be formally removed
from the bench despite her felony conviction.
