UK BROADENS THE FRANCHISE

By Bob Walsh

64 per cent of adults would have liked to have had the vote at 16

Last week the United Kingdom lowered the voting age to 16.  I can't imagine how wonderful that will be for them.  Hormonal high school students deciding major policy (at least indirectly) for their country.  What could possibly go wrong?

It should be noted that the voting age in Wales and Scotland has been 16 for quite a while and they are still at least semi-functional.  Maybe it won't be horrible.  Maybe most 16-year olds won't bother to vote anyway, as long as the latest pop idol isn't running for anything.
