The Pittsburg Post-Gazette will shut down all operations,
print and digital, on May 3 of this year, bringing the end to a 240
year institution. This will leave Pittsburg with no traditional daily
newspaper.
The cause of the
closure is said to be general market forces and labor costs. The Block
family has owned the paper for over 100 years. It has lost over $300
million over the last 20 years.
