The Saugus Café, a classic
24-hour eating establishment in L. A. County, is closing down right
after New Year. It has been there a while. Among it's better known
patrons were Presidents William Harrison and Teddy Roosevelt. Queen
Victoria was still very much in control over a very vigorous British
Empire in 1886 when the joint opened. Pieces of movies were filmed
there and Hollywood types were known to chow down there now and again.
It is as far as is known the oldest restaurant in Los Angeles County.
The family that has owned and operated has not announced a reason for the closure nor what will happen to the building.
