DRIVING ILLEGALS CRAZY

Is the formerly great state of California moving towards letting anybody drive without a license? Probably not, but you do have to wonder.

As you are probably aware illegal aliens cannot get a driver's license in California. They can buy cars and can even get insurance if they want to go to the trouble and expense, but they can't get a license. That means when they are found to be driving without a license their cars get impounded and towed if they cannot come up with a licensed driver in a reasonable amount of time to drive the car away for them.

FREE OUR CARS is a Los Angeles area coalition of people, mostly illegal aliens, who think it is “unfair” that their cars can be impounded just because they don't have a driver's license. They view the towing and impound fees, which are significant, to be “unfair” as well.

So, what is the answer? Should the laws be changed so that illegal aliens can get drivers licenses? Should the state allow illegal aliens to drive legally without licenses? Damned if I know, but as someone who has been in accidents with unlicensed, uninsured illegal aliens, I can appreciate the problem.

Perhaps the real solution is for immigrants to come here legally and obey the laws and rules. That, though, is probably mean and judgmental on my part.

EDITOR’S RESPONSE: Yes Bob, you’re just a mean and callous old fart. As for those accidents you had, you should have stayed out of the way of those unlicensed, uninsured undocumented workers. And stop calling them illegal aliens!!! Get with the program!
