The Mexican drug cartels have a way of leaving messages that are crystal clear and to the point
Borderland Beat reports that on Wednesday some farmers and students found the decapitated heads of three men at a traffic circle monument near a truck stop in Los Reyes, Michoacan. The three heads were together with a poster board which had a handwritten warning saying that a similar fate would occur to anyone supporting the ‘autodefensa’ (community police).
The bodies of the men believed to be aged 28-32 have not been found. The authorities did find some severed limbs.
The ‘autodefensa’ is a vigilante group of brave citizens that are fighting the cartels because local and state authorities have either refused or failed to do so.
On the remote chance that some residents of Los Reyes might not quite comprehend the warning, my question is: Qué parte de ‘un destino similar’ no lo entiendes? (What part of ‘a similar fate’ don’t you understand?)
UPDATE: The Associated Press reports that the three heads reported by Borderland Beat to have been found Wednesday were actually found on Friday. The day before, on Thursday, police found another three decapitated heads in Los Reyes together with a message, the contents of which they have refused to disclose. And last month, the bodies of two men were found hanging from a Los Reyes tree along with a message threatening the autodefensa.
