According to the Fox News report, a legislative bill (Assembly Bill) AB4 will move to Governor Brown's desk soon that will force law enforcement agencies (who detain illegal aliens for committing certain low-level crimes) from cooperating with federal immigration authorities (ICE) on securing deportation holds. Known as the “Trust Act” the law would act similarly to a shield law for illegal aliens, only this time the shield being used is the badge worn by all law enforcement officers across the State.
Not only does the law fly in the face of common sense and the rule of law, it is arguably unconstitutional because State law cannot supersede federal law. Unfortunately, going outside Constitution boundaries seems to be the forte of liberals in power in this current political season, thanks to the lead of the top Democrat in the White House. It will be interesting to see if Governor Brown signs the bill. If that happens, then the response from Eric Holder and the federal AG will be even more compelling.
EDITOR’S NOTE: Superseding federal law is exactly what the States of Washington and Colorado did when they legalized pot. The same can be said for the states that enacted medical marijuana laws. And for the most part, in both cases, Holder has had the DEA sit on its ass.
