The Associated Press reports that Charles Johnson,62, who had been living in the San Angelo, Texas area since 2002, died Tuesday of natural causes. Because his death was unattended, the Tom Green County Sheriff’s Office ran a fingerprint check which revealed that Charlie wasn’t really Charlie. He was Robert Leroy Parker, who escaped from the Federal Correctional Institution in Reno, Oklahoma on July 11, 1972. Charlie…oops, I mean Leroy... was serving time for mail theft when he escaped 41 years ago.
Hey, come to think of it, this escape turned out to be a win-win for everybody. Parker was able to enjoy life in the free world. He probably worked and paid taxes for 41 years. And the feds didn’t have to house, feed and guard him, thereby saving the taxpayers a bundle.
