WITH THE ARMY RANGERS IT’S STILL A MAN’S WORLD

After three officers succeeded in becoming the first women Rangers, all other women have washed out of the special op course

A senior army official revealed Friday that all five women who started Ranger School last week failed to meet standards during the four-day physical assessment period and were dropped from the course.

16 women washed out of the course last April in which three officers succeeded in becoming the first women Rangers. That was the first course to accept women.

Here are the physical standards that all soldiers must meet during the Ranger Assessment Phase:

• 49 pushups

• 59 situps

• 6 chin-ups

• A 5-mile run in under 40 minutes

• Land navigation test

• Water assessment

• A 12-mile march, carrying a rucksack and water that weighs about 50 pounds, in under 3 hours

It must be noted that many men are also washed out because they too are unable to meet those physical standards. Having said that though, with the Army Rangers it’s still a man’s world.
