Regular readers will remember I wrote about this incident some time back. Matthew Benger, 24, a trainee at the Maine Criminal Justice Academy on June 12, shot and injured a fellow corrections officer, Mathew Morrison, in a truck belonging to a third trainee, Cody Gillis. All three were nearing the end of their five week training cycle. Morrison has been unable to return to duty since the shooting due to the gunshot injury to his leg.
Benger is being charged with reckless conduct relating to the discharge of the weapon. He is no longer employed by Cumberland County.
