The Patriots Rally had just broken up and was peacefully breaking up when a shot was fired. The cops were right there and there is excellent video available.
The shooter was
a Pinkerton employee contracted to a local TV station to provide
security for a news crew. This is, in fact, a common thing. (At least
one of my old coworkers has a really good retirement job doing just this
sort of stuff.) The security guy got into some sort of verbal hoorah
with someone who may have been a member of one side or the other of the
protest. The now-dead guy blasted the security guy with a shitload of
orange defense spray of some sort, presumably OC spray.. The security
guy then shot dead guy square in the chest. The security guy was
arrested and is being held without bail on a murder charge.
I
admit I don't know about Colorado, but in many states use of chemical
agents against someone without legal justification is felony assault. It
is POSSIBLE the shooter was legally justified. It is also possible the
shooter pulled first on the dead guy, who then blasted him with spray
in a very misguided attempt at self defense. The easily accessible
footage is sort-of censored so my delicate sensibilities will not be
offended. Waste of time there.
I am confident this will be fully covered by the so-called news people as the story develops.

Looks like the guy did NOT have a current guard license from the state. Pinkerton may be in trouble on that one.
