This is the terrifying moment a pickaxe-wielding woman smashed through the windows of her neighbor's Pasadena home just inches from a newborn baby.

Beverly Baker, 65, was caught wielding the weapon in the horrifying attack on Monday. She was filmed by Arman Tchoukadrian's Ring camera approaching the home then smashing through its windows before walking away and returning again to smash more.

Baker then started marching back to her own home a few blocks away. On her way there, she yelled: 'I'll be back! Get out!'

Tchoukadrian's mother-in-law was in the home with his baby daughter, who was sleeping in a bassinet near one of the windows. He says the baby would have been seriously injured if her grandmother hadn't saved her.

Exactly what caused Baker's outburst remains unclear. She is being held in custody and is due in court this morning on a felony vandalism charge.

Commander Bill Grisafe of Pasadena Police Department said the pair have no relation and Baker was having some form of mental health crisis.

'We have no reason, no motive for this,' he told DailyMail.com. He would not say whether she had any kind of record with the department.

Tchoukadrian says she owns multiple properties in the area but that he had never seen her before. He fears he was the target of a racist attack because he is Armenian, but police are yet to confirm the woman's motive. Records show that Baker owns a $1million home across the street from where the family lives with one of her children.

The terrifying incident was caught on the homeowner's Ring camera. It remains unclear what prompted the attack, or if the victims know Beverly Baker

It comes amid skyrocketing crime in LA, with the total number of violent crimes up 4.2 per cent.

Arman Tchoukadarian said that he feels like the family 'lost their safe place' in the incident.

The homeowner estimates that about $20,000 worth of damage was done to the house during the attack.

His mother-in-law was alone with the baby when Baker brazenly walked up to the property with the large weapon.

She managed to snatch the baby away from the window just before it was shattered, before Baker returned to the scene.

Tchoukadarian told KTLA: 'If my mother-in-law didn't act as fast as she did, my daughter wouldn't be here.

'She broke one window, went back. My mother-in-law came out screaming and yelling to get my attention.

'Police found her, nonchalant, walking with a pickaxe on her back, like she'd just finished working with it.'

Baker returned multiple times, with the pickaxe swung over her shoulder, shouting: 'Questions? Questions anyone? I'll be back, get out.'

Pasadena Police later arrested her at her home just a few blocks away from where the attack had taken place.

Investigators say Baker may have been suffering from mental illness, though that is not confirmed.

Baker refused to surrender for around half an hour but was eventually taken into custody and faces charges of felony vandalism.

Tchoukadarian said his family has been traumatized by the ordeal, adding: 'She needs to be in the right place, getting the right help.

'That's no excuse to go attack someone's family, attack someone's newborn and ruin their dream home, and ruin their life and sanity.'
