The IDF, in cooperation with other Israeli security forces such as the Border Police and the General Security Service, carried out a raid overnight on a bomb-making facility in Nablus (biblical Shechem) belonging to the new terror group known as the “Lion’s Den.” During the course of the anti-terror activity, the facility was reportedly destroyed and the IDF confirmed that five terrorists were killed, including a senior Lion’s Den operative.

The raid came after weeks of increased terrorist activities in Samaria, including shooting attacks against IDF personnel guarding roads and towns there.

On Israel’s engaging in anti-terror attacks within areas of the Palestinian Authority like Nablus, Defense Minister Benny Gantz commented:

“There are not and will not be cities of refuge for terrorists. We will continue to act against anyone who tries to harm the citizens of Israel wherever and whenever necessary.”

The raid was carried out at what was described as a “hideout” apartment in the center of Nablus used as a headquarters and explosives manufacturing site by the main operatives of the Lion’s Den terrorist group. The forces destroyed the explosive manufacturing site.

During the activity, reports the IDF, multiple armed suspects were hit by Israeli fire and Palestinian reports indicate there were multiple injuries. Dozens of Palestinians also burned tires and hurled rocks at the Israeli troops. The troops responded with live fire toward the armed suspects shooting at them.

The Lion’s Den was responsible for the attack that killed IDF Staff Sergeant Ido Baruch two weeks ago in an attack adjacent to the community of Shavei Shomron. It is also responsible for an attempted terrorist attack in Tel Aviv and the planting of an explosive device at a gas station in Kedumim.

They also attempted to carry out a shooting attack in the community of Har Bracha and hurled a grenade toward IDF soldiers.

Recently, this terrorist group has continued to recruit, plan and carry out attacks aimed against innocent Israeli civilians.
