The Sacramento Zoo is nice, but it is old. Ancient. And
small. Not quite 15 acres. After a lot of talking and planning the
zoo was all set (many people thought, including me) to move to a 65 acre
spot in Elk Grove. The deal just feel thru. It would have ended up a
lot smaller than they thought with a loss of about 1/3 of the species
they have now.
The
Zoo has decided now that their best move forward for the short and
medium term is to not move at all but to make the best of the small
chunk of real estate they have now. They are smart people and
creative. Last year they had an animatonic dinosaur collection spread
out around the zoo. It was really cool and the kids LOVED it. They
have done wonders with what they have, but it is terribly small.
Bummer.
