In San Francisco, a place that is flypaper for freaks, it is dangerous to stick one’s nose into somebody else's business even though it’s a good deed
By Bob Walsh
On Thursday of this past week Donnie Smith, 41, was walking along minding his own business in the Tenderloin district of the People’s Republic of San Francisco.
At about 7:40 p.m. he saw two women fighting on the street. He attempted to break up the fight. Bad move.
At that time a nearby man dove in and knifed Smith multiple times. I guess he was mad at his entertainment being interrupted. Smith died at the scene. His attacker fled.
One of the women was injured enough to require minor hospital care.
I don’t wish to seem unkind but in this day and age, especially in a place like SF that is flypaper for freaks, I would be very reluctant to stick my private citizen nose into somebody else’s business, especially a nice friendly fist fight where nobody is likely to get any serious injury. It was way too easy for the situation to go sideways.
