That name will not mean much to anybody under 60. Gogi Grant was a very hot singer during the 1950s and very early 1960s. Her iconic “The Wayward Wind” knocked Elvis’ “Heartbreak Hotel off the #1 spot in 1956. She was also a successful actress, appearing in movies with Paul Newman and Fats Domino.
She got out of the music and acting business in the late 1960s to raise a family, then went back on tour in the 1980s.
Ms. Grant, aka Myrtle Audrey Arinsberg, died yesterday (03-17) in her home in LA at the age of 91.
