It seems that there is a military coup underway in Turkey. There are many reports of military aircraft buzzing cities and armored vehicles blocking intersections in Ankara, the capital city.
Turkey is a long-standing ally of the U. S. and a fairly solid NATO partner. They do, however, have a major perceived internal problem with their Kurdish population, who they view as dangerous separatists. The Kurds have been very reliable fighters against what we consider to be the bad guys in the middle-east.
This could turn out to be very interesting, or a huge nothingburger. I am confident we will know in a few hours.
EDITOR’S NOTE: From what I know, the coup has nothing to do with the Kurdish problem. President Recep Tayyip Erdogan wants to turn Turkey into an Islamic state and some of the Turkish Army leaders want to keep it secular.
