A Maine Correctional Officer was leg-shot by a fellow academy cadet on Monday.
Matthew Morrison, 33, or Mars Hill, was in the back seat of a pick-up truck at the Maine Criminal Justice Academy when he was shot in the leg by Matthew Benger, 24, of Portland. Both men were academy cadets working for different county systems.
The gun had been stored in the truck when Benger retrieved it. It discharged while being handled with the round penetrating the seat and hitting Morrison.
The cadets were part of a 29-man five-week basic correctional officer class. The Maine State Police are investigating.
