Donnie R. Rowe, 43, and Ricky Dubose, 24, were being transported to a classification center by two armed correctional officers early Tuesday when they somehow overpowered the officers. Both officers were shot and killed by one weapon, presumably being operated by one of the escapees.
Both men were seen getting into an older dark green Honda, license RBJ-6601.
The murdered correctional officers have been identified as Christopher Monica, 42, and Curtis Billue, 58. Both assigned to Baldwin State Prison.
The inmates managed somehow to penetrate into the staff area of the caged bus. At least in theory the inmates do NOT know when they are to be transported to the diagnostic center. Rowe was doing life without, Dubose was five years into a 20 year stretch.
