IT WAS A DEADLY WEEK FOR POLICE OFFICERS

It was a deadly week for police officers in the U.S. Two Westerville, Ohio officers were killed responding to a 911 hang up call. That's probably one the most dangerous calls an officer can make. There is no information to rely on.

A Richardson, Texas police officer was killed responding to a disturbance.

The morning after, a sniper opened up on a Dallas PD unit on the I-30 wounding one officer with shards of glass. The spent shells from the sniper were left behind.

Nationwide, 5 officers were killed in the last 6 days.

In my opinion, we are seeing is a war on police nationwide.

I am always open to discussion about causes, but I cannot help thinking that this war on police began during the prior Obama Presidential term when officers were routinely investigated and indicted by the DOJ.

Most officers were exonerated when the smoke cleared and the true circumstances of each incident were looked at without the hype from groups like Black Lives Matter and overzealous prosecutors.

I will never forget when President Obama gave an order that stopped allowing local police to apply for grants to use former military equipment. President Trump has since rescinded that order and police can once again use this equipment.

I mention this because at the time, I was wearing a military plate carrier vest while operating a marked license plate reader. I was given an order to stop wearing the vest because it looked too intimidating to the public. In my supervisor's defense, I was given another new vest to wear but it could not support a plate that would stop rifle rounds. Was this order given because of political correctness? I don't know, but I was sure surprised when I received it.

I read that before the 5 Dallas area officers were killed by a sniper in July of 2016, they were told to leave their rifles and protective gear of plate bearing armor and helmets behind so that they wouldn't look militaristic and intimidate citizens at a rally against police officers. It turned out to be a deadly decision. This story broke almost a year later on the Dallas CBS news affiliate.

Political correctness has and will continue to kill police. I want to know how a Chief or upper level supervisor can look into the eyes of a slain officer's relatives after being a possible contributing factor in his/her capital murder.

I want to offer words of advice to all law enforcement. If you are given an order that you feel makes your job unsafe, be sure and document it. It could help your love ones receive what they deserve in case something happens to you.
