An outing to buy shoes at Payless ended in tragedy on Friday night when a 2-year-old girl was struck and killed by a falling mirror at the Georgia store.
Little Ifrah Siddique was taken to a nearby hospital following the accident in Riverdale, but she passed away from her injuries.
"Everyone would smile when they saw her," 20-year-old cousin Aqib Iftkhar told the Daily News on Sunday. "Everyone enjoyed having her around."
Iftkhar said that Ifrah's little brother Ali was standing right next to her when the mirror fell. He said it took two people to pick it up and slide his cousin out.
He was not at the store when the tragic accident took place, but said he was told by the fire department that the large mirror was not secured or fastened properly. The Clayton County Fire Department could not be immediately be reached for comment.
"It just happened to fall at that time," said Iftkhar, who was born in Queens but moved to Georgia when he was a child.
The 6-foot Iftkhar said the mirror was roughly the same size as him. "They are actually pretty heavy," he said.
In a statement, Payless said "our deepest sympathies go out to the family of Ifrah Siddique during this time of incredible loss."
"We are devastated by this tragic event and are fully cooperating with authorities to research and understand the nature of this accident," Payless said. "Out of respect for the family, no further information will be provided at this time."
Iftkhar said the family is trying to come to terms with what happened.
"We are just trying to go ahead and bury her," he said.

That really sucks. Damn shame. That's what you have business liability insurance for. Killing little kids by accident does not look good.
