LET’S BE HONEST AND ADMIT THIS BILL WAS PASSED TO ADDRESS COMPLAINTS THAT TOO MANY BLACKS ARE IMPRISONED

Good news at last! Trump hails Senate for overwhelmingly passing bipartisan criminal justice reform bill as Ivanka congratulates husband Jared for steering it through

The Senate passed a sweeping criminal justice bill Tuesday that addresses concerns that the nation's war on drugs had led to the imprisonment of too many Americans for non-violent crimes without adequately preparing them for their return to society.

Senate passage of the bill by a vote of 87-12 culminates years of negotiations and gives President Donald Trump a signature policy victory, with the outcome hailed by scores of conservative and liberal advocacy groups.

The House is expected to pass the bill this week, sending it to the president's desk for his signature.

The bill gives judges more discretion when sentencing some drug offenders and boosts prisoner rehabilitation efforts.

It also reduces the life sentence for some drug offenders with three convictions, or 'three strikes,' to 25 years.

Another provision would allow about 2,600 federal prisoners sentenced for crack cocaine offenses before August 2010 the opportunity to petition for a reduced penalty.

EDITOR’S NOTE: I get more than a little perturbed at the blather about non-violence. Many of those drug offenders serving time for ‘non-violent’ offenses actually committed a violent offense or were armed, but plea bargained the charges down to a non-violent offense. Other drug offenders had a history of committing crimes of violence but the offense for which they are serving time was a non-violent one.

Obviously, we can expect blacks and white liberals to do a victory dance over passage of a bill that will release a bunch of criminals onto the streets. But conservatives support this bill because they are under the illusion that this is money-saving legislation. Wait till they see what the cost in dollars will be to society for increased auto burglaries and thefts, home and business burglaries, robberies and other crimes.

Gotta agree with ya Howie. Only...the conservatives supporting that bill won't notice the cost to society. It will be absorbed and paid by insurance companies which will, in turn, pass that bill off to the rest of us in the form of higher premiums.
