AOC currently holds a 26-point lead over Schumer in early Democratic primary polling, despite not saying she would run for his seat.
Fox News' Rachel Campos-Duffy likened Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez to President Donald Trump after a new poll showed her leading Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer by double digits in a hypothetical primary.
The survey, conducted by the progressive firm Data for Progress, found that 55 percent of likely Democratic voters in New York preferred Ocasio-Cortez, while 36 percent backed Schumer.
Nine percent remained undecided. The poll, which has a four percent margin of error, was conducted in late March with 770 respondents via text and online panels.
The results follow growing dissatisfaction with Schumer among Democrats, particularly after he supported a GOP-backed funding bill to prevent a government shutdown — a move he continues to defend.
Danielle Deiseroth, executive director of Data for Progress, said the findings show Democrats are looking for leaders 'wanting to stand up, wanting to fight, wanting to see someone taking a stand for them.'
On Fox & Friends Weekend, Rachel Campos-Duffy, Griff Jenkins and Charles Hurt argued that Ocasio-Cortez should not be underestimated, emphasizing her influence within the progressive wing of the party.
Campos-Duffy drew a direct comparison to Trump: 'This is one of the dangers of staying too long, not exiting while still on top. Schumer has been there a long time. AOC is a raw political talent. She understands her base, the leftist populism in the party, and social media.'
She added: 'She took a page from Trump by speaking directly to people, bypassing the media, though the media is friendly to her. She should not be underestimated. I believe she would win in a matchup.'

Jenkins noted that Schumer's support for the GOP funding bill gave Ocasio-Cortez an opening to rise among the Democratic ranks, referencing her recent town halls with Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT).
'That was Bernie handing over the torch to her for that wing of the party. No question,' Campos-Duffy concluded.
Additional results from the same Data for Progress poll showed several progressive Democrats topping favorability rankings among likely New York Democratic primary voters.
Sanders led with a +69 rating, followed by Kamala Harris (+63), Elizabeth Warren (+60), Ocasio-Cortez (+59), and Pete Buttigieg (+55). Schumer, notably, had the highest disapproval rating of any Democrat listed.
That discontent has sparked calls for Ocasio-Cortez to challenge Schumer for his Senate seat in 2028.
According to the poll, she holds a 19-point advantage in the potential head-to-head matchup.
On policy priorities, respondents listed 'threats to democracy' as their top concern, followed by 'Social Security and Medicare,' then 'the economy, jobs, and inflation.'
Despite the party's struggles in the 2024 election—losing the popular vote, Electoral College, and every swing state to Trump—Kamala Harris remains the national frontrunner for 2028, according to a separate Morning Consult poll.

Several prominent but controversial Democrats have topped the list of most popular politicians in a new poll that hints they may risk to repeat 2024's election loss

She currently holds a 26-point lead in early Democratic primary polling, despite not saying she would run for his seat.
However, enthusiasm for Democratic leadership appears low.
Eighty-four percent of voters surveyed by Data for Progress said congressional Democrats are not doing enough to oppose Trump and the MAGA movement.
In another measure of influence, a CNN poll asking which figure best reflects the core values of the Democratic Party today saw Ocasio-Cortez come out on top.
She led with ten percent support, followed by Harris at nine percent. Sanders placed third, while former President Barack Obama and Texas Rep. Jasmine Crockett tied for fifth at 4 percent.
