The Corporation for Public Broadcasting has voted to
disincorporate due to the withdrawal of government funding. This does
NOT mean that your local PBS or NPR station is going away. The CPB
existing primarily to distribute goodies from the federal gravy train.
When it was set up, in 1967, there was a point in it. A LOT of areas
had access to only the big 3 corporate broadcasters and a different view
was valuable. That is no longer a realistic issue. Cable and then
streaming services bring a huge variety of programming into every nook
and cranny of the country.
This
does not mean that Kermit or Downton Abbey will disappear. It does
mean that some marginal operations may be in trouble. Such is life.
